Let me guess. You played the FS1Port then simply went to the campaign room and picked the Freespace 2 campaign and now it's not working right?
Well the problem is that the entire FS1 campaign is run via the FS1 Port mod. FS2 is a completely seperate mod so even though it's visible in the campaign room menu it's not actually playable.
To run FS2 you need to quit the game, run the launcher and choose the mod tab. You'll notice that your currently selected mod is the FS1 port. Simply choose the mediavps folder and FS2 (with SCP enhancements) will now be your selected mod.

This post is mainly directed at ShivanSPS who put your download together not you badme.
Badme is the second person to have this problem this week. I think it might be an idea to include a new campaign file which overrides the main FS2 campaign and simply tells people what I've just told badme to do. If this campaign file was stuck in the FS1 Port folder it would solve the problem without affecting the rest of the install.
I'm attaching an example file.

Are you sure you have the tango_fs2.vp in your main FS folder? This should have come with Shivans torrent download?

Ah. I think I've seen this problem reported before with certain builds.
With this and the two previous RCs, the briefing music will run normally for a random amount of time, and then sort of stutter, lag the game up for a few seconds, and then dissappear. The game is unaffected, and ingame music doesn't seem to be affected thus far, it's more of an annoyance than a serious glitch, but any chance anybody'd have a solution?
Is that what you're seeing?
-
It's not normal. FS2 actually has some pretty good briefing tunes and it also has ambient music when nothing much is happening.
If you're getting no music when you run it with "no mod" selected then it's almost certainly a problem with the executable file rather than anything you've done wrong. It could even be the same problem I quoted above manifesting itself in a slightly different way.
-
Also try a debug build and post your fs.log file. If it's having sound issues then there are problem clues in the debug log.
-
RC5 has a problem with music playback, so you are not doing anything wrong :)
-
There are currently quite a few issues with the music in general. I often don't get any music in command briefings and sometimes the ambient music in a mission also fails to play at the beginning (although restarting the mission generally fixes it). Not sure if it's OpenAL related or what. Occasionally, some sounds also play at a much lower volume than usual and are nearly inaudible.
Also try a debug build and post your fs.log file. If it's having sound issues then there are problem clues in the debug log.
I'll try posting one later. I remember seeing a few "OpenAL error: invalid operation" things there the last time I checked.

You might want to post about that here...

.MVE = movies, Tango = .briefings...... ::)

My bad! I stand corrected once more! :sigh: Meh!
Anyway he says he has warble and still no music, anyone with any other ideas?

Check sound settings in the launcher?

Check that this OpenAL is installed? (http://developer.creative.com/articles/article.asp?cat=1&sbcat=31&top=38&aid=46) (located at bottom of page as an "Attachment")
