Title: What the hell
Post by: LoneFan on July 12, 2006, 07:45:20 pm
Hey everybody. I have been along time player of FreeSpace, since 99 and I just got a new comp.
I installed Descent FreeSpace, and everything is going fine untill I notice the Boost isn't working.
Does anyone have a clue of what I did wrong, or should I just install the FS1 port.

If your talking about the afterburner, try running FS2 in Win 98 mode.

Begin plasma core insertion, gunnery control, open fire:

Welcome to HLP. Please keep all appendages within the installation at all times. Flamethrowers are located underneath all seats, however, due to the rising cost of oil, the ID / evolution debate (don't debate me on Whether or not there is a debate),V, and the meaning of life, the napalm has been replaced with Holy Water. Plasma rifles are located in the weapons locker, but only Admins,V, or a hyper-intelligent shade of blue have access to these areas. If you meet a Shivan in the ductwork it is most likely Carl, give him your lunch and back away slowly, odds are good you'll be fine. Recommend reading includes Karajorma's Freespace FAQ for general questions, and The Freespace Wiki for specific issues and questions.

Fourth kill. :)

Get the FS pot instead of trying the original, its the same game of course but the port is far, far better.

Many people prefer the original Freespace. I don't, because i'm a graphics whore. But I hear many of the old and crusties on this very forum really like the original version. "it just has that Freespace1 feeling that the port doesn't capture" etc etc.

Well, in a way it really doesnt have the same feeling, I have the original Fs but I just said that because the port is prettier.

I agree. I even have the modded HTL apollo and a bunch of other stuff which makes it look great. but everyone says it doesn't have the same feel.

Maybe because you know the original is bot that technological advanced (not shiny, etc). I still consider to be one the best games I have even today. I still remember when I first played the Fs1 demo and saw that cruiser, I just said wow immediately.

Are these the same people for whom 'retail compatibility' is retained?

Yeah id have to agree, it does not have the same feeling. FS1 is the ****. Reinstall, and try TAB for deafault afterburner (boost).

Nope. Retail compatability is retained because only a ****ing idiot would take it out.

Think about it. Once we lose retail compatability what are you going to play on FS2_Open given the massive amount of time it takes people to put a campaign together?

Also, if we change compatibility with every release, 3.4 wouldn't be compatible with 3.5 which wouldn't be compatible with 3.6, etc.  It'd be a support nightmare.  All the builds need to be compatible with each other, so they might as well be compatible with retail too.

Well I installed FS2 and guess what, NO AFTERBURNER!
Who do I have to kill in order to fix this.
or at the very least can someone tell me if they have ever heard of something like this before.
