First off, I posted this at the FSPort forum thinking it was related to that, but realized it happens with FS2Open as well, so thought I'd post here for any additional eyes willing to help...
How noobish I know, but I've been away from this project for awhile and had to reinstall everything. I'm trying to get FS2Open to run, but it refuses to work. All I get is the SCP intro screen. I can't close FS2Open, I can only do so by restarting the computer.
What I've done so far:
I installed FS2,
grabbed redmenace's 7/10 CVS build (standard, unoptimized),
grabbed Launcher version 5.4,
grabbed all of the 3.6.8 Zeta MediaVP (with both alphapatches) and put them in their own folder (named FS2Open),
I point the Launcher to the exe I wanna use (standard, unoptimized), point the MOD tab to the VP folder (FS2Open), and configure video (OpenGL) and audio (Audigy 2 ZS, installed OpenAL 1.1). But I get stuck at the SCP intro screen. Somebody please tell me I missed something simple.

have you done a clean install of fs2? Try maybe deleting the existing pilot. You might need to remove creatives own open al stuff.

This might be the same 'issue' that i had long time ago...
Open the FS_Open launcher, select the Features tab's then pick Dev Tools from the list types and select Run in window. Then run the game. Check if there are security or other windows popping up on the background.

Aye, I can confirm that I had similar problems some half a year ago.
Every time I grabbed a new build, it *seemed* to froze onto a black screen after the splash screen. This was because in the background, a security message asked if t's okay that fs_open_version.exe works as an internet server or something along those lines. I used to have to start every new build in a window at the first time I started it, and after tagging the "Always allow this program" tag, everything worked normally.
Recently, I've not had this problem, though.

Yeah, that was it. Overzealous firewall. Thanks Wanderer.
