Title: Unnamed fighter.
Post by: Scooby_Doo on July 12, 2006, 11:58:57 pm
Yup you guessed it... another wc model LOL

Using this design art for Privateer 3
(http://www.wcnews.com/newestshots/thumb/wco10t.gif)
still working on texturing.

to me it screams WC 2Dralthi... (the wings, the central cockpit, the two side hulls and the two wings) (http://www.wcnews.com/ships/images/wc2drakhri.jpg)

Thanks, I still need to do detail touch up work on it.

Nope, there was several artist renderings for P3 but the game alone with Private Online (or was that wing commander online) never made it.

i guess thats where freespace's iron grip on space sims clinched, rendering anything else obsolete :D

....or killed off space sims  *ducks and runs*  :drevil:

its true, it killed them cause of the fact noone could do better. least till the scp came along.  who would buy a space sim unless it could beat the scp?

course plus the fact, things like joysticks are no longer the norm.

Bad Scooby!

Freespace 2 didn't kill off Space Sims, no matter how much certain elements would love to believe, even software developers admitted it was almost impossible to compete with Franchises such as Star Wars, it was that and the slow demise of Joystick compatible games that contributed far more to the demise than the pre-release claims of Volition. There's hardly a game out there that doesn't oversell itself pre-release, so why should one incident of it be blamed for the death of an entire genre? Just look at the NFL games and their pre-release screenshots for evidence, they didn't kill off the Sports games genre by releasing them :p

I think it's more Doom-clones killed off space sims...Easy to produce, needs no joystick, easy to play (not real thought involved just twitch reaction), storyline, who needs a storyline?

Yeah, good point, the rise of the FPS probably played a massive role in it too, I'm actually hoping we will soon be seeing an end to the 'rinse-repeat' method of FPS games, the genre really is starting to stagger now.

Those top spikes do not fit in at all, it really messes up the look of the model, and really look pasted on. Pull them off and you have a good lookin ship.

Very, very nice. I don't mind the spikes either, at least from this angle.

It does lack that realistic look, though. Maybe add more greebles, and make the sharp polygonal edges more complex.

Roomiest cockpit I've ever seen.

Oh, .... what about missile bays?
Title: Re: Unnamed fighter.
Post by: Scooby_Doo on July 23, 2006, 05:36:27 pm
Missile banks are somewheres on the dagger thats under the cockpit, I don't really have a texture for them.

oh, ok
BTW, I suggest giving that the Ulysses' agility and the Perseus' speed.
Just my 2 cents.

Actually I kinda have my heart set for something similar to a Dralthi in terms of performance... somewheres inbetween my rapier/bloodfang and the slower goran so approx 100m/s and agility of something like 3.5, 3, 3.5.

Please note, there is one that has a readme (don't remember which one off-hand, i think gothhek?) you made need to use the ships.tbl file, this deletes most of the terran/vas fighters to make room for mine (otherwise you'll get the above max ship limit error).  Best to put my stuff in a mod folder that way it won't interfer with normal fs2.

Or, I could use the Inferno build?
*shrug*
I'll put it in a mod regardless.
Thanks for warning me!

I still need to do shinemaps and glowmaps but....

Codename: KF-26 Drakthi    (note not Dralthi, just very similar)

 Very nice! I like that a lot. The only thing I could think of changing would be those fins. If they were a different shape that maybe sloped towards the back, while maintaining a low profile it would give it a very clean and crisp look. The way they are now is cool, but they don't fit the straight-line design of the main hull, and they look as if they'd be very dellicate.

Can anyone dig out the Kilrathi Design philosophy from the Victory streak, I'm a hundred percent sure that this fighter fits it. :D

Her she is:

simply follow the same instructions as the previous ships (the additional.vp is needed)

Nice. But the cockpit just looks too farking big, more like it wants side by side seating like an F-111.

Narrowing up the canopy, sloping its top down so its line breaks from the top uf the hull, and lopping a couple chunks off the hull either side of the canopy to give it more of a fighter-ish looking nose would vastly improve its looks, IMHO.

And the top blades curviness just doesn't fit with the sharp edges of the rest of it. They sorta look like someone stuck huge bull's horns on the hood of a 1976 Cadillac Eldorado. ;) Making them angular would cut a bunch off the poly count, giving you room for slightly more complexity in the cockpit area.

This is 100% Kilrathi lookin perfection,
I applaud the look/..
