Title: I hate to start a new topic but
Post by: zornog1 on July 13, 2006, 12:19:31 am
I'm so glad I found this place!

Hi, I'm new, and until now I haven't been able to find a website that had actual Freespace mods/campaigns for download.  I had heard about the SCP, but couldn't find anything worthwhile.  But now I'm here!

So I am expressing my thanks for your existence.   :D

For the record, I have been working on a FS story, called Planetside (it's about what happens on the planets that you're all fighting above [during the Great War]).  It's all in planning stages now but I hope to have the first few chapters up by the end of the month, if you're interested.  My ideal hope would be to make a campaign around it, too, which would be fun (since part of it takes place on Ross 128 when the Shivans arrive ...).

Anyway, nice to meet all of you, I hope to stick around!

What are the system requirements?  I really want to download it but my graphics card went kaput a couple of months ago and I'm running on nothing but what the mobo gave me.

It's preferable to use something that has a decent chance at running OpenGL, the preferred (by far) graphics mode over DirectX. That's basically any nvidia card since the Geforce2 GTS and any Radeon since the 8500. Integrated video cards usually suck, and hard, unless it's Intel Extreme Graphics 2 which is semi decent (but only IEG 2, IEG 1 sucks) or an nvidia nforce chipset which had decent integrated graphics (Geforce2/4 Mx versions)

you can run, I think, on software mode but you'll lose out on a lot of the modernized SCP gubbins.  In fact, I'm not 100% sure if SW is still officially supported on the newest versions.

...eh? What are you smoking? IEG2 is a load of bollocks too.  This laptop has it. It lacks HTL support, and its not the fastest gpu out there either. For anything but gaming its fine, but if you wanna do anything in 3d, it chokes.

Hard Light Art is sufficient for that, methinks.

Welcome to HLP, zornog. Can't wait for the story--always in need of a good read arond here. :)

And what would that be?

S3 Graphics ProSavage DDR

I'm thinking = teh suck.  It'll play regular FS2 with Direct3D - Primary Display Driver, but only at 640x480 :(

I'll have you know, this is all the fault of the UPS store, who, I swear, wrapped my computer up in static electricity.

Hey Zornog1,

Once you get some chapters going consistantly, why not join us at Spacebattles.com creative writing section (fanfiction archive). Freespace1/2 needs more representatives :D

Mine's a mega cross-over, but singh and I think one other are more focused on the FS series alone.

l8tr!

Spacebattles.com is a friggin' horrible wasteland of fangasm crap. Even fanfiction.net is better. (This coming from one who refuses to post to fanfiction.net anymore, it's that bad.)

The truth must be told.

you want Mods? try Hades-Combine (http://www.hades-combine.com). We've got over 100 mods. :)

oh, and welcome to Hard Light Productions. I don't exactly have any advice to give to you except that the flamethrowers are under your seat, but due to some event i don't know about the napalm has been replaced with Holy Water. The plasma rifles are located in the weapons lockers, but they can only be opened by the HLP administrators, Volition employees, or a hyper-intelligent shade of blue. There are no exits or emergency exits of any kind. If you find a Shivan while crawling through the air ducts, it might be Carl. Just leave your lunch and he might leave you alone. If he hungers for more than a lunch, then may God be with you.

Enjoy the ride.

Originality there is an impossiblity.

I'm sure it would be entertaining to read some of them, but just the descriptions alone make them look like the typical cookie-cutter storylines or ideas that I've read over and over again already.

Fanfiction on HLP may be far inbetween, but it's still better than most of the stuff out there.

Hmm, story sounds like a good mod for an FPS - The Great War: Source?

Just by the way, what was that parody that involved Alpha something-seven and a half?
