The valiant forces of the GTVA throw themselves without hisitation at the enemy shivan hordes
-----------------------------------
I modified the herc abit =) not a a great improvement certly not for close up but good enough for that ting little bit of extra realism at a distance

Sweeeeet. Are those maxim blasts? (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)
With the second one, the Herc Looks sharper, and what did you do to the textures, they look sweet.

Looks like some aggressive bump-mapping. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
EXCELLENT work! This isn't your first-EVER render, right? Because it sure doesn't look like it. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)
That herc looks pretty dang sweet.

basically up until now my renders have solely been to get a good look at a ship i was designing or building - this is the first time i've done a render for a piece of art if you will - i kinda got fed up cause i dont really know how to texture so all my stuff looks pretty poor - so i got DC to send me some models with textures and set to work =)
so yeah my first render of sorts but its not the first time i used the program

the engine glows on the hercs are a bit too thick.
And did you add thuster flames to the rakshasa?
-
yup i did casue it occured to me that that kind of glow that everyone uses would only be produced if the ship were sitting in the middle of a nebula
-
better shivan gunnery skills =(

The missiles or bombs in the first picture are excellent. You really get the feeling they are gonna really smash throught the Shivans hull.

? upu change the glow for realism, but the ùissiles spawn smoke? somwhere the reasoning is wrong (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

main engines are burning hydrogen - clean fuel - missile solid proplant - dirty fuel so smoke trail

I prefer the first pic, the lighning is more impressive (more glows), and that explosion is not really convincing.
But this first pic is very cool indeed (I criticized and forgot to praise (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/tongue.gif) )
