Title: Errors after install
Post by: sadde on February 25, 2001, 12:49:00 pm
I just decided to install Freespace 2 again, and start playing it some more. (Although I know it's going to be far too addictive ...)

However, when I'm starting the game for the first time, I get this error:

"Error: Could not load animation cursor for the mouse pointer"

I click "OK", watch the intro, and recieve this error:

Error: Too many fonts!
See John, or change MAX_FONTS in Graphics\Font.h

File:C:\projects\freespace2\code\Graphics\Font.cpp

Again I click ok, only to get another error:
Error: Could not load in ChoosePilot-m!
File:C:\projects\freespace2\code\UI\WINDOW.cpp
Line: 182

Call stack:
------------------------------------------------------------------
    KERNEL32.DLL bff7b9e4()
    KERNEL32.DLL bff7b896()
    KERNEL32.DLL bff7a24f()
------------------------------------------------------------------

... leading to the program crashing, and I have to terminate it with the three-finger-salute. (ctrl-alt-del, yea)

OS: WinME.
Ram, video card, cpu, available disc space etc should be adequate by far.

Does anyone recognize this problem?
I've searched around to find a solution and
reinstalled several times without
finding a solution.

Have you anything to change the game in any way at all? or is it a totally clean install?

If it's a clean install try uninstalling, defragging and installing again. Or try downloading the patch from the launcher (click the update button).

If it's been altered, try uninstalling all the mods, .tbl files and whatever else you put in any of the directories that wasnt there before.

I've installed it several times, even on different drives, both partial and full install. I get the same error with both v1.0 and v1.2.

Weird.

Sounds like a knackered CD if anything.  Or a wonky HD.

Drivers? WinME? Video card? EAX? Toilet paper?  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/tongue.gif)

Check all that. I know that ME tends to have problems. Use Dx7a if you can, as I got problems with Dx8.
