Title: A better hippocrates?
Post by: Harbinger of DOOM on July 15, 2006, 08:48:35 am
I've been toying and fiddling with POF-CS, ModelView, and DXTbmp for a couple weeks and decided to mess around with the Orion and other ships.
After making a couple minor texture modifications and other things I decided to modify the Hippocrates to make it look better.
after a lot of trial and error (lots more errors than trial  ;) ) I made a slightly tolerable Hippo,  and I decided to release it here.
Maybe after I get more experience in modeling, I can make an HTL Hippo.
But for now.....
enjoy

Generally people don't flame you on HLP unless you actually deserve it.

And screenies are the gift of the Gods.

Finally, a board with people who actually have common sense!

I don't know how to take screens.
I'll look in the Wiki. [edit] No dice.....  :blah: [/edit]

If you don't find an answer in the wiki you should look at my FAQ next :p

How can I take screenshots?

Press PrintScreen. The game will take a screenshot and save it in your FreeSpace folder. (Some OpenGL builds of FS2_Open save the file elsewhere but if you hunt around you should find it).

I'll have to update that now that they all save to your Freespace2\Screenshots folder but that should have been enough to allow you to find it :)

Yeah, I actually looked in you FAQ right after I edited my post..... *head-thwack!*
I'm planning on fixing the name texture bug with TrashMan's Orion Mk2 and Orion Adv.
The only problem is that I have no clue where to get the font they use for the names, and I don't want to use Verdana or anything because it'll stick out like a sore thumb.
Help?

Again check the FAQ. :p There's a link to Goober's tutorial in the modding section. He's got a copy of the Stop font there.  :)

They have that font on the Port website. DL here (http://fsport.hard-light.net/extras/stop.ttf)

Man, I hope that link works >p

I allready fixed those - I just didn't put the new nameplates for download.

It might take a while since I have to make all GTA and NTF nameplates for the campaign.

Oh, OK.
Thanks anyway, everybody for the links to the font.
Might come in handy later on.......

Hmmmmm, I've seen so many versions of many shipmodels and and things (ie, all the Orions floating out there), and it gets extremely frustrating for Modellers/texturers to always have to do/redo the Nameplates for all the ships in campaigns. So I curious, why not have text instead of nameplates? Or would it be too much of a nightmare to code?

I think you need to re-work it.  No offense, but you got window texture as a structure tube and on lower and front sections that look like they need to be plated.

Windows are just that windows. That's my philosophy anyway, but it's your re-texture.

Granted I hadn't looked at the original in a while, but I feel confident enough to say you might want to rethink the mappage. Also what resolution are those textures vanilla? Try to grab the higher ones (If they made hippo ones) from the media vp's.

It's generally too much of a nightmare to code.  And if people would follow some kind of standard, it wouldn't matter which version of a ship you had and the nameplate would always work.

The way I did it is consistent with the original, and I already have the high-res textures. ModelView just doesn't read them.
If you look at the original, you'll see that it also has the the lights.pcx on the 'corridor' between the two sections.
Of course, it is very easy to redo what I did, but if you want, I can upload another version.....

I guess that makes sense, thanks for answering. :)
