Aroo? Lookie what I stumbled across on an unrelated search
http://www.dragonlance-movie.com/news/show_news.asp?id=54
Kiefer Sutherland to do VOICE of Raistlin.... Oh yeah and Xena is Goldmoon (blah)
Why did I get a sick feeling to my stomach when I found out it's animated?
Hello, didn't you (DL folks) notice a mega-blockbuster series called L.O.T.R.?
Or are they just chicken that it will flop and not willing to back such a venture as a live action film. Yet Sci-fi channel can keep making live action TRASH on shoestring budjets.
I must admit the D&D movie was OK, but the second one was even better (more realistic) and that was made for TV only (Dungeons & Dragons 2: Wrath of the Dragon God). Anyway Elf Mage chick was hot. Barbarian too if you like em "meaty".

Personally I couldn't give a flying **** whether it's animated or not as long as it's good :D
To be honest animating it is probably a good idea as far as marketing is concerned since if they don't everyone who hadn't heard of it will just think LotR rip off. Especially when you consider the fact that the Companions are going to look very similar to the Fellowship in many ways.

Because it is an LoTR ripoff. :p
May it die a horrible stabbity death, like all fantasy should.

L.O.T.R (animated) might have been bad, but Record of the Loduss Wars was ultra awesome. If this director treasures his job, he'll get people experienced with doing Japanese Animation. As for the sound, well. Don't get stingy dude! Dragonlance is my favorate saga in the AD&D realm. This'll be an insult to me if it's anything less then RoLW.

Of course it is. In the first edition halflings were even called hobbits.
That said Dragonlance is one of the better rip-offs so I've got no problem with seeing it as a movie especially if it's done well.

Corrected for clarity of concept.
There is fantasy literature beyond LOTR worthy of literal acclaim.
For starters take a look into Ursula Le Laguin's books or Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series.

I doubt you, sir. Quite seriously, having read both authors and finding their work at best...mediocre. perhaps, compared to our contemporary writers they come off well...but when compared to their own contemporaries they do not.

Discworld could be qualified as fantasy too, you know.

True there is BUT...
As a (over two decade RPG'er) there is no doubt to me that anything bearing the D&D logo is at SOME point derived from the direct works of Mr Tolkien (who's works are thusly based on older tales, legends, and folklore).
I have no problem with the statement "it's a D&D ripoff" But would have preferred, "It's a Homage to the LOTR concept." :D
