Ah, but what's the price difference?

(no, really.  For quite a while, I remember AMD processors having slightly inferior benchmark results to Intel ones, but being so much cheaper it was an easy choice)

I think i remember seeing a 6600 @ $300ish beating a FX-62? @ $1000.

I want that Core 2 X6800, and the potato chip P4 that's in my comp out now.  What about the price of the chip though?  Something that pegs at the top of all the test results has got to cost serious dough...

And I have to ask...Is anyone gonna buy that X6800 chip?

You people are always a few days late on reporting these things. :p (and I think you linked the wrong article; this (http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2795) is the Empire Strikes Back one)

I was going to hold off on this until the end of the year, but I'm sold on it now. I knew it was going to be quite a monster at stock speeds but wasn't expecting the near 50% overclocks on the 6600 model and close to double the Mathematica performance over my 2.85ghz 165. It might also allow Mission Critical and LFSH2 to actually run well inside Dosbox. It could still be another month or so until we get a decent motherboard selection though.

You aren't the only one. Also considering that the keyboard on my laptop bit the dust, that it won't "suspend" properly anymore, and for some wierd reason the battery won't charge if the computer is turned on (it does when it is turned off) anymore.

LOL, on mine the 8yo monitor finally gave up the ghost, the tower's side panel is never on and the hard drives are laying on the side, kinda like having the guts hanging out LOL, the reset button barely works and often to completely power off i have to pull the power cable LOL

oh and i have a power line leading from the psu to the new case so the light/fans work on the new one LOL.
