As far as I know both games are made on the same engine, what was ported is the FS1 campaign wich is the Freespace Port.

FS2 has some enhancments compared to FS1, and FS2 SCP has many, many improvments over FS1, which is why the FS1 campagin was ported.

Yep. Now go to the launcher, click on the mods tab and select that folder as your mod. Ta-da. FS1 on the FS2_Open engine.

Ahhh found it, thanks. Im finding the campaign a bit weird, command very rarely askes you to return to base, and sometimes you just arent sure if you should.

Im really confused about the mission where you have to capture the ramses. The fighters arent a problem, but its just too difficult to hit the the laser turrets, and your wingmates are completely helpless(they never score a single hit on any of the turrets either). Then the taranis and scorpions jump in, and that just makes it worse. The taranis doesnt attack the ramses for some reason, even though your wingmate says that it IS.

Is the taranis supposed to kill the ramses? It seems to be that way, but the taranis never shoots at the ramses.

The ramses mysteriously explodes after a certain time as well.

And the mission after that is even more weird, you fly athena bombers to take out the taranis engines and weapons, okay, but then you have to dogfight all those shivan fighters in a bomber?

The athena is a light bomber. You shouldn't have too much trouble dogfighting your way through enemy ships in it.

The Port is good, but it's worth getting the original FS if you can.

Just to clarify, FS_Open is a community based development of the FS2 code, which itself was developed from the original FS code.

I downloaded the Port... but somehow the download forgot the campaign.

Times like this make me laugh.
