:(

Only a good thing, I think.
-
My [incredibly nerdy] dream of someday attending E3, shattered.
-
Perhaps it'll go back to actually being a venue for games developers to show and discuss what projects that they're doing with each other.
-
sounds like a fair cop instead of the advertising spectacle it became hopefully developers/publishers will spend more money on development, instead of advertising in these things.

Ditto... :(

Well, I never would/could have attended E3 anyway.
All this means is that we'll get a more evenly spread stream of information rather than a huge chunk of marketing once per year.
-
*failure to care imminent*
-
I've said it before and I'll say it again, first they take our booth babes, and now this...
-
Finally. It got too big for its own good. The games industry has gotten too evil and commercialized anyways.
It's all about the money. The whole deal was that smaller start-up companies (maybe 5-10 employees) would have to blow half of their year's budget to get a 3' x 3' space in the very back corner of their hall, where they were supposed to display the game they have been working on for 3 years.
Meanwhile juggernauts like EA get a giant piece of land smack in the center of the exhibition hall, turn it into some circus with scantily-clad women who know absolutely nothing about the product, and showcase their 20th installment of the Madden series, *Now with accurate 3D-modeled teeth on all players, based on their dental records!!!*.
So, yeah. Good riddance.

Who the **** cares about small games companies? It WAS SCANTILY CLAD WOMEN! See this is why gamers get a bad rep... :wtf:

So why don't automobile fans have a bad rep too? They have scantily clad women too! :p

Thats exactly why they don't get a bad rep. Read his post again, see where you made the mistake.

Wow, thats stupid, there already is a smaller game con in that takes place somewhere in the midwest every year. I swear if they kill E3 theyd be shooting themselves in the foot. E3 creates hype which = big intrest which = big $

And very big $ cost for the publishers, too. It doesn't make sense to keep E3 as was - who gives a **** about the few thousands of fans, it's far, far more important and sensible for publishers to be able to give out information, etc, to media sources (TV / Internet) with a hundreds of thousands / millions reach, particularly when under current conditions it's (reportedly) nigh on impossible for real proper journalists to get into meet people unless they're known by face.

It's easier to consider it tasteful when combined with video games.

Indeed.

So what we need is a strip-bar with arcade machines?

Nah, an arcade machine with a strip-bar. That's the way to go.
-
Who cares about E3? GDC is where it's at.

Yer weird.
I personally have never been to E3, so I don't really have anything to say about this.
However, E3 seemed like a good place to learn about upcoming games better than any game magazine.
Someone getting rid of something good is never a good thing.

Forget your stupid E3! I'm going to have my own E3! With blackjack! And hookers! In fact, forget the E3 and the blackjack!
