Now this is just a suggestion, so no need to beat it down to Zealously if your on of those people who dont like others attempting to add anything to this community.
So for a start im aware of the obvious:
Maybe over Ambitious.
It's a bit late. Three years on..
Not that constructive critisism isnt good, just plz if you want to whine, take it elsewhere.
Now, why a PXO2. What does it mean, and most importantly whats wrong with the old one.
Nothing, but PXO2 could bring a Focus for the community at large (Those not already involved in projects) and some unity for the
single player MODers, FREDers and the Multiplayer pilots.
Now what Id like to know is:
A. is this a feasable projects.
B. is the community willing to participate.
C. how popular is the idea.
D server, legal constraints and other issues.
The Idea:
Freespace 2 MODed Multiplayer.
A kali or Heat stlye page with IP connect properties. Everyone has the MOD installed, New ships, wepons etc. One standard pack, removable like Derelict etc. So simple to use or remove.
MODers create this downloadable pack including MODs ships tables etc, which could be voted in by the community (I understand there are limits to how much can be altered)
There could even be various packs eventually. The possibilities are huge.
One thing which could be developed would be a ranking system similar to that of PXO.
Some Possible CGI PHP or comparable?
Initialy wed run a very basic framework, just geting players together and linking them by IPs, starting FS2 Automatically and such could come later.
I can see there being problems but im sure they are surmontable. If you feel a glimer of exitment at this prospect please voice your support here. Or on the topic in the VBB.

I don't really know if I could pull it off myself... There would be a lot of hurdles to overcome (which I won't get into right now) but given enough time I might possibly figure out a way to do it.
Unfortunately, I've got a few too many projects on the back burner to finish before I could even look at something that involving... Killfrenzy, expect that email soon if you still want/need me...

I happen to like perl (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/tongue.gif)

Do u realise what pxo is? it is basically another gamespy or something, sure the website is gonna be easy, but then the coding of the communication from freespace to the website is not gonna be possible, unless someone can hack the source or someone at v if they can be bothered to lift a finger, and patch the game so that we can hook it up to a different server, or someone goes in there and changes all the web address to the right site, but even then it still could not happen because what about all the commands it sends to the server?
sorry to dis u or anything but it is not gonna be possible even with v's support (if they would be bothered!) and i believe kazan and a few other people would back me up on this

Those were the very hurdles I was speaking of, Avenger. I couldn't have said it better myself...

Hey, I didn't say I hate it (I didn't even say I don't like it). I just said that he could have wrote that on a real language... (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

Look at something like FSGS.
www.fsgs.com ("http://www.fsgs.com")
Or maxgaming.net has an IRC client with built in directplay and kahn type support.
Kahn would be perfect, if they support NT, 2000 and XP.
-
Technical challenges aside (formidable though they may be) there's something else to be considered... and that's CHEATERS. How can you regulate *.TBL files to prevent someone from modifiing them and escaping undetected (until it's too late to prevent him from ruining the game).
------------------
I told you that It ("http://www.jskgames.homestead.com/files/home.html") would be done by November, well, mostly anyway...
