Title: Asmos question thread. joystick twist and build
Post by: Asmo on August 02, 2006, 09:49:31 am
Hello.

I just bought and used my Saitek Cyborg Evo.  I downloaded the torrent + 1.8 and 1.9.

I use this file for in the latest launcher:  "fs2_open_r_Kara_20060429" . Note: NOTHING ELSE WORKS. NOTHING. I have tried all kinds of 3.6.8 and 3.6.9 + the addon files and everything. This works with all mods and the fs 1 port that I want to play.

Now,

My rolling/twisting with the joystick does not work ! Why is this?  It works with the Babylon Project, with raider wars. Makes me a sad panda.

Also, since im using this "build" and not the 3.6.9, am I missing out on something? It says im using 3.6.8 inside the game. The new graphics work. but I always want to play the latest in games.

I have an AMD barton 3000+. 1 gig ram. Radeon 9800 pro with the latest ATI drivers. This is THE errormessage I get. It has "ati" in it so it might be something:

fs2_open_3_6_9 caused an Access Violation in module atioglxx.dll at 001b:043afdd4.
Exception handler called in FreeSpace 2 Main Thread.
Error occurred at 8/1/2006 20:20:12.
C:\Aon\Spel\Freespace 2\FreeSpace2\fs2_open_3_6_9.exe, run by Aron.
1 processor(s), type 586.
1024 MBytes physical memory.
Write to location 00000000 caused an access violation.

awesome mod/scp.

pls help. thank you

I don't know what to tell you about the joystick twist. I have a Logitech Extreme Pro, and in some mods it twists, some it doesn't... although with later builds it seems to be happening a lot more.

You mentioned the 3.6.9 build with add-ons. What add-ons specifically were you using? And which RC of 3.6.9?

Not add-ons per say, but the thingies someone wrote you shoud have. like mv_effects or something like that. Whatever it was, I had it!

I have tried RC 3-5.  Also tried "FS2_Open_KARA_20060517" and I think 3.6.8 aswell.

The thing im using now works so far, so its good but still... pisses me off, if I miss out.

For 3.6.9 to work properly, you should visit this thread (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,39905.0.html) and download the Zeta VP's. Then apply the alphapathces included with the 3.6.9 RC downloads. Most further questions should be answered here. (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/karajorma/FAQ/intro.html)

Don't worry all people are hopelessly confused when setting up FSOpen. The second link takes you to Karajorma's FAQ, which has instructions onhow to set it up.

To be honest I think we'll need more info than simply telling us that it doesn't work in order to solve the problem. The build you mention is a rather interesting one. It's the last build before Taylor's env mapping and OpenAL changes hit CVS. That caused a lot of problems that were cured by people upgrading their version of OpenAl to v1.1 you can find that here (http://developer.creative.com/articles/article.asp?cat=1&sbcat=31&top=38&aid=46).

As for the twist handle what I suspect is the problem is that you have the axis bound for your TBP pilot but not for your FS2_Open one. Press F2 and then go to control config. Choose ship and then look down the list to see what your bank axis option is set to. My bet is nothing. If so click bind and then twist your joystick handle and it should now bind it.

Thx karajamoma, you are a hero among men, my axis is set up correctly now.

As for the other Im sorry if Im unclear but all this confuses the hell out of me. I have read that 3.6.9 disables shield regeneration, so I would not want to use that atm.

But the build im using is much older than the others, if I understand correctly. So I would like to use at least the 17th may one or something. Now as I think I said, I use the 1.9 torrent-page-download by Shivan.  The Zeta VP's, I have, they correspond to the exact size as the ones I have. The FAQ did not help, sry.

And as I said, the "fs2_open_r_Kara_20060429" is the only one that works, and Ive tried some. I get the immediate windows "want to send petition" error every time. I have now also installed the OpenAl you just posted.

I tried "fs2_open_d-20060731"    and  "fs2_open_d_KARA_20060517"

none worked. Always the same :

fs2_open_r_KARA_20060517 caused an Access Violation in module atioglxx.dll at 001b:04cd5a9d.
Exception handler called in FreeSpace 2 Main Thread.
Error occurred at 8/5/2006 00:13:28.

1 processor(s), type 586.
1024 MBytes physical memory.
Read from location 00000452 caused an access violation.

If I miss out on info, pls tell me directly, how and where to get it :)

RC5 did have a problem with shields but that was fixed shortly afterwards. What you need is this build http://icculus.org/~taylor/fso/testing/light_test.rar.

If you install that and OpenAL from the link above and you're still getting crashes then try running with no mods (simply go to the launcher's mod tab and click no mod). FS2 will look ugly if it runs but seeing as we're trying to figure out what's causing the crash that will help. Finally run the 3.6.9_debug version instead and then post the last 5 lines of fs.log if it crashes.

I got it.

It was the latest 6.7 drivers from ATI that were the badguys. I have "light-test" build atm, but no music, so gonna find a better one. But it should all work now.
