Title: Animated thrusters
Post by: Starman01 on August 04, 2006, 03:18:09 pm
Hi there,

just a short question :

Since it is now possible to apply a animation (eff and ani) to a pof model, is it also possible to use an animated thrustereffect and apply it to a model using species_def.tbl ?

Wasn't that used in standard FS2 already? Except for the species table part. Changing some texture names by had shouldn't be a problem though.

I think the SCP has just passed some significant milestone when people start thinking up stuff that was already in retail, like coming full circle or something. :D

@DaBrain :

Yes, I got the same idea after I posted this. The old models had thruster-cones modelled in. I suppose this is still possible, right ?

Yes, it is. I was the only animated texure in the retail version as far as I can remember.

You could create awesome thruster effects with it.... but only as long as the ship flys straight in one direction. The thruster models rotate with the ship. That's rather ugly...

In fact, I need it only for the small time when a ship starts cloaking, so that the engines also fade out slowly :)
