Trying out a proggie called Illusion - it's really cool - it's for particle animation and stuff like that. Anyway, I put together a little AVI that I think y'all will like... ;)

Good work, Sandwich (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

Glad to see that Illusion has been put to good work already.
That was the basic concept with Illusion.
Just my wrong there.
I have a new avi on my server called Tracking.avi
Why tracking?
I haven't the faintest... (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)
It's a cool animation for the BIG BOYS. yep 17 megs cable adviceble.
It has full 44 Hrz stereo sound and it is a DiViX 640 X 360. it runs pretty smooth.
I deceided to dedicate it to all the squads of FS2. Past, present and surely future.
I will render a new version, half in size and format with mono 8 bit sound. That will soon be coming.
Have fun and lets have some feed back...

Dedicate it to enough people? Jeez....
Its pretty nifty...
I wanna see that thing finished....

I work primarely, on this type of thing, with Lightwave.
If anyone has Lightwave installed I'd be happy to share all my models and scene effects, lighting and textures set ups for this.
There is a huge amount to do to develop the storyline.
I have some one doing the charecters, then it will be a joy to manuall animate them.
Yeah right! a joy...

Next Monday my animation school starts,
me teaching... hehe do they know what they are in for?
Wish me luck!

I have lightwave, but I never got around to learning more than the real basics..... I've been using MAX.
-
Do you have the original lightwave library of models, texture and images?

don't think so.......

(http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/frown.gif) too much to download... (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
maybe scene by scene...

I'' take a look when I'm back home. 48kbps is decent for a modem, but ADSL is preferrable. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

Okay, Tracking.avi is actually one lightwave master scene. One single .lws file with a huge number of polys. It needs a fast videocard to view it in open GL. Even at 64 x 64 pixel res it will stagger to run a preview on my card. Elsa Gloria II (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/frown.gif)
So my advice is view only wireframe models, turn off lens flare in open GL and you'll get a decent movement bias to the final render on all 4 perspectives.
I will provide the models for the scene with a camera run down.
The fundamental lighting set up has been done but some areas will need further lighting to the new or moved models.
Most of the models have already textures rendered in other scenes and under totally different lighting conditions.
So they might need some tweeking done to suit.
I'm also looking for any files .lwm models from FS2. Herc II, obviously some caps like an Orion class, a Deimos class, a Mara, Sekh and so forth...
It would be great to see an FS2 scene rendered in Lightwave.

Dude, I just viewed tracking.avi...
That is amazing - how damn long did it take to render? (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/eek.gif) Massive kudos to you, dude!
-
thank you Setekh.
To render Tracking.avi A scene with 3 different cameras it took in all 3 days
There are more than 72 lights and each one has to be set for everything. Forget one flare to hide behind objects and you're stuffed. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
In future a master scene like that I'll have to brake it in to several scenes reducing the objects in it, especially the object hidden from the camera.
No point in rendering all options if they are not going to be seen.
Rendering was an average of 6 mins per frame. and there are over 1200 frames in all plus the off-cuts.
about one week full time for settingvthe scene up about 2- 3 days test rendering textures and spot random renders to make sure all the flares are behaving the correct way.
If you notice the first part (the star scape in the background) is staggering.
I should have rendered at 30 frames per secs, but I only rendered about 100 dframes and lenghten the clip in premier by slowing it down. the results CRAP! (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
I guess I'll have to re render that part and recompile the avi.
yeah right sometimes... (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)
