Beats the **** out of a sports car for going to work in :D
-
Neat ride, too bad it comes without engines.
-
and i have a feeling gas costs a fortune
-
A few weeks ago, a CEO of a Chinese company bought a MiG-21 off eBay. It came with engines. :p
But he just put it on display at his corporate HQ. Such a waste... :(

I'm curious ... if one has a ex-military jet in working condition (without weapons), would one be allowed to fly it from a civilian airport ?
-
I don't see why not...

Yes, it's legal to fly military aircraft as long as two conditions are met:
1.) You must be lisenced to fly the craft.
2.) The craft must not carry, or be capable of carrying, any ordinance.
Other than that, about a year ago a F/A-18 (Blue Angels vintage) was sold on eBay in flyable condition. It went for $18 million.
The guy actually flies it, to my knowledge.
-
There's a Russian business which basically offers interested parties the chance to fly Russia's latest and greatest (Mig-29, Su-27 etc) jets for about $10,000. If I was rich and had a good stomach, I know what I'de be doing.

I thought the sale of military hardware was prohibited on eBay? I mean, I recall they took down an auction for a second-hand Colossus-class Aircraft Carrier a while back because it was 'against regulations' or some such. Of course, who would want a third-hand Aircraft Carrier previously owned by Brazil anyway? No harm done.
-
Well, you'd need a place to land your Harrier, right?
-
When I was in 7th grade I saw an auction site for a decommissioned Russian diesel sub. I think it went for a quarter million.

*Phones bank for loan*
Simply for the falklands glory,...........................*proud*
I wonder if its one that sunk the *forgets name of uselss Argie ship due to not caring for Argies)
-
Belgrano? (Believe it was a torpedo, that one, though)
-
Was it sub launched or an exocet, or was that one of ours that was ship-missiled?
Ahh crud,................My miltary forte' is not history i assure you beforehand :)
-
According to wikipedia, the Belgrano was struck by a torp fired from a sub (the HMS Conqueror)
-
Its still a kill :D
Did you notice on ebay theres another harrier with no engines etc for 10K, bit of a price difference what what.........
BTW do they come with ejectore seats or not?
I'd happily blow 10K on a workin ejector seat..........
-
There was an English Electric Lightening on display outside of a BAE AeroDome near Backburn untill recently. That was cool.
Would be great owning a harrier but I doubt it would fit in my garage. The car only just goes in......

Similarly, there's a Tornado GR1 parked next to the train lines/entrance to Shoreham Airport in Sussex. There used to be a Harrier in its place.... not sure what happened to that.
-
Drunken joyride of a lifetime?
-
The Lightening was sold for scrap. Made it into the local news. There's alot of precious metal goes into those things, even older planes.
I think they're grounded for safety reasons. Something about too complicated for DIY, or some such.

You ever seen a sopwith camel? Or a microlight for that matter, Its just a go-kart with a glider stuck on top, (only £600 ish) if i remember correctly last time i thought about buying one of a mate.
-
2.) The craft must not carry, or be capable of carrying, any ordinance.
Doesn't that infringe on the right to bear arms?
I guess there's nothing preventing anyone from doing a refit. Unless that's illegal too...

Really? Damn, it's going to be a hard choice come upgrade time. Get a brand-spanking new Video Card, or get a Sopwith Camel for the same price... choices, choices...
-
Fly from the comfort of your own room in video-tick tock land, or fly over a group of miscreants and drop carrier bags of dog **** on them. lol hard choice.....
-
Yeah but crashing your computer isn't usually fatal :)
-
That depends on how badly you need it :D

nowhere does the 2nd ammendment gaurantee you the right to have an armed F-16. you can carry a gun while you're in your F-16 though
