Post by: Dark Hunter on July 31, 2006, 11:00:37 am
Does anyone mind if I post a welcome speech?

Target "crucial soul", OPEN FIRE!!

:welcome:

Welcome to the HLP! Exits are located in most directions, including 5th-dimensionally. They are all at the moment, blocked however. Don't try to escape via the ducts, because Carl lives there, and he's a very territorial Shivan. I you meet him, throw hm your lunch and back away slowly. Do not attempt to use one of our emergency-flamethrowers, since they are filled with holy water. All other weapons (such as the plasma rifles) are stored in secure lockers on Deck 42. The lockers may only be opened by an admin, :v:, or hyperintelligent shade of blue. Refer to Karajorma's FAQ for general questions, the Wiki for specific ones, and enjoy your stay!

The mission: Not bad at all for a first attempt.  There are just three problems as far as I can see.

1. Aries wing jumps in six klicks away. This.... is a little far. They should be jumping in about 1 klick. Might try adding more waves as well.

2. Shouldn't a freighter have a cargo container to carry with it? All the Ma'ats were empty.

3. Lack of background. This one really isn't that big, but a planet, or multiple suns, might improve the look. You can get some incredible backgrounds from Singh's Background Emporium (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,32341.0.html).

But on the whole a really good mission. Fix those three things and I wouldn't see a problem.

Hey Crucial_soul

I agree with everything that Dark Hunter said.

You could (and should) make a campaign on of this, I know I'd play it.

Just wanna add one thing.  Not a big deal or anything but when I played through it the first time, I was near a knossos and I was like "Where in the GTVA is a knossos portal?" (Besides GD)  not a big deal just my inner muse.   Otherwise good work.

I would say that this is just for campaign announcements, and that if you have a single to release, make a new topic for it.

Oh yeah! One thing I forgot: where's the music for this mission?

Look at Hades Combine downloads section. (http://hades-combine.com) There are a few Vasudan installations. Most of 'em are big, but I think there's a small base as well.

All of them are about Destroyer-sized, and the Cheops doesn't fit my needs. It doesn't matter, I'm currently using an Aten inside a Ganymede. It looks kind of stupid, but WTF.
Title: Single mission
Post by: Snail on August 03, 2006, 08:17:30 am
I just finished the fourth mission today and I decided to test it out (I test all missions before making them into a campaign). And when I started out FreeSpace, I got this error:

Error: ships.tbl(line 6125:
Error: Required token = [#End], [$Subsystem:] or [$Name], found [$Trail:].

File:\fs2_open\code\parse\parselo.cpp
Line: 633
[This filename points to the location of a file on the computer that built this executable]

Call stack:
------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------

When I pressed 'OK', it repeats the error with every single line after  :hopping:.  I'm using the same FSOpen build as I was using yesterday (of course) and yesterday, it was working just fine  :sigh:. Does anyone know WTF is going on??? :(

HELP ME!!!  :(

It sounds like you have an extra entry in there somewhere. I'd check for any lines that have "$ND" in them. Those lines are completely useless to FSOpen, and screw it up.

Post by: Snail on August 03, 2006, 12:38:32 pm
Oh, that must be the problem (AF Kato has like 20 of them) .
Title: Single mission
Post by: Dark Hunter on August 03, 2006, 12:40:48 pm
Yeah, just open up the table (Notepad works just fine) and delete those "$ND" lines. Be very careful not to delete anything else.

Post by: Snail on August 03, 2006, 12:42:28 pm
Same error.  :( It's impossible that I don't have enough space in the TBL because I use that Table Cleaner thing AND deleted ALL  the Shivan ships to make space for the Ancients.

Post by: Dark Hunter on August 03, 2006, 12:43:26 pm
Is this table of yours in a VP? If so, you have to extract it, change it, then rebuild the VP for the change to take effect.
Title: Single mission
Post by: Snail on August 03, 2006, 12:44:14 pm
Not in a VP. Furthermore, I checked the line that the error pointed to, and I found it isn't even correct. It says $Subsystem: turret07,0.833,1.0, and from that line on every single line seems to have somekind of error on it.  :doubt:
Title: Single mission
Post by: Dark Hunter on August 03, 2006, 12:48:01 pm
Hmmm, can you post the table entry in question? I'll check it against my own Ancient ships (all of which work fine). I'd do it in a new thread though, don't want to go using up Skippy's thread on a tbl error.
Title: Single mission
Post by: Snail on August 03, 2006, 12:53:47 pm
The funny thing is, the error doesn't even occur on an Ancients ship. In fact, it occurs on the GVCv Sobek.  :blah:

This is even weirder than when the GTCv Carolina in Inferno turned into a Vesuvius.

Okay, this is getting weirder and weirder.

Error: ships.tbl(line 6061:
Error: Required token = [#End], [$Subsystem:] or [$Name], found [$Trail:].

File:\fs2_open\code\parse\parselo.cpp
Line: 633
[This filename points to the location of a file on the computer that built this executable]

Call stack:
------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------

Claimed line 6061 = $Trail:
Real line 6061 = $Subsystem: turret07,0.833,1.0

After deleting the entry for the Sobek, I get the same error...
This is scary.  Very scary.  :shaking:

The line in the parser doesn't correspond to the line in a notepad-read table file. Are there any Terran ships you added?
Title: Single mission
Post by: Snail on August 03, 2006, 05:13:51 pm
Yes, the GTMI Aule (or Shark right now). Errr... bump the release date to December 11th 2012  ;)
All the ships that I have added are in the campaign's profile.

It is just.... scary how fast you are responding to my posts.  :shaking:

I think it is likely an error in that new ship then. Does the error make any sense when applied to it?

Aule?A ship with the name of a God(J.R.R.T)?

That's strange, however, I got that error when I used 3.6.8 Zeta mediavps with the 3.6.7 build. Be sure it's not just a table editing problem...
Where's karajorma? He can help you out...

About crucial soul's mission:
1)You may put Aries in conjuction with a bomber wing. Make Aries jump closer to the convoy and  the bomber wing jump far...a bit, however.
2)An Installation is always near a planet or a moon, put them.
3)There where too many docking rings.
4)The briefing needs fixing.First of all do not put names written all with capitol letters, like COLOSSUS.The freighters' icons work better without the name upon them in this case, the last stage is a bit chaotic(there is the freighter wing icon, pretty useful).
5)When the Violet arrives, it destroys a freighter with its beam and the mission fails.
6)To explain better the situation, single missions have Command Briefings. You should create one and talk about the reconstruction of the Colossus, the post Capella, bla bla....
7)Not important this one...Why you put GTC,GTI and GTD on a ship's name?

GTD Leda
GTD Hecate

That's strange. You should call a ship with its name, without "desinence".It is used many times in FS1, in FS2 just in the loop(where the difference between NT and GT is important!),but it isn't intended to be used always...
I saw "NTFC" one time and found it awful...
Title: Single mission
Post by: Snail on August 07, 2006, 04:55:30 pm
Yeah the NTFC Saharan made me laugh my head off until I found I was being killed by AAA, flak and my own squadmates.

But the error doesn't even correspond to the Aule. It corresponds to the Sobek. This TBL error also occurs with Neo-Terra Victorious (I was making a single mission based on NTV Tables). Weird thing is, it worked, but now it doesn't and I haven't changed any settings. I began happening when I tried to delete all the Shivan ships...

You should ask someone expert, like karajorma.
That's strange,a mister "over 10.000 posts" is always attracted by requesting help threads....
Title: Single mission

Please, keep the discussion about other missions to their own thread. The campaigns list is for reporting on campaign status, not single mission discussion.
Title: Single mission
Post by: karajorma on August 08, 2006, 12:09:29 pm
There's already a topic about this subject elsewhere and giving support on two different threads is always a nightmare so the off topic on this thread should be split off anyway. Unfortunately since Missions and Campaigns was liberated from the FRED forum I no longer have moderator rights here. Leaving the only moderator someone who's an admin now anyway :D

You should ask someone expert, like karajorma.

How do you think I got that many posts in the first place? :)

Bear in mind that I only know the basics of table editing so someone like Wanderer is a better person to ask for help in this matter and I believe he's already offered to help on the other thread if he can see the table.

To LieutenantGeneralMobius,

thnx for the info and comments, never thought about all that stuff, i will get to work on it right away. just to let u know i have decided to make a campaign, still working on the storyline and stuff and i will get to work soon. The mission i posted before will be in the campaign but will be much different.

"7)Not important this one...Why you put GTC,GTI and GTD on a ship's name?

the reason for these GTD, GTVA, NT etc. is to tell the player who the ship belongs to. Obviously i wont be using any random letters all of these will make sense in the campaign.

I do what the main campaign actually did; use the alternate name feature to reflect the ship's allegiance.

"Desinence"? :wtf: You mean, prefix?

Prefixes are used, or not used, according to the whim of the mission designer.  Both ways are used in both FS1 and FS2, so you can use whatever you prefer.  In ST:R, we use the prefix to designate allied vessels and the absence of a prefix to designate rebel vessels.

I do what the main campaign actually did; use the alternate name feature to reflect the ship's allegiance.

The only place in FS2 where this is used is SM1-03.  It appears nowhere else, not even in missions by the same mission designer.  I'd call it an anomaly.

Eh? You're certain?

I swear they altered the class prefix in more then one mission.

NTC Fenris, NTC Leviathan...

I grepped every retail FS2 mission for "#Alternate Types", and that was the only mission that had them. :)

What about the 'Unknown' alt name (used for the Ravana and Sathanas).
Title: Re: Single mission

That has nothing to do with allegiance.

the reason for these GTD, GTVA, NT etc. is to tell the player who the ship belongs to. Obviously i wont be using any random letters all of these will make sense in the campaign.

The IFF also tells the player on which side a ship is.If the ship is also present in the escort list,if you have 3.6.9,allied ships are shown in green and hostile ships in red.
If you target a ship or a fighter/bomber,you istantly know if it's friendly or not....
Please do not copy what we post, rather you should use quote. If you continue to do what are you doing(unless you copy and paste my posts),I'm obliged to write short posts...

To Goob:I wrote "desinence" because I didn't know how do you call it in english.

Eh? You're certain?

V designers aren't some kind of FRED gods, they can do things not 100% correct. Personally I use the prefix SL- for all rebel ships and fighters of the SLA.
The same is for the NTF.
