Title: To Mantis or Not to Mantis?
Post by: Mike_A36 on August 15, 2006, 11:30:28 am
I am using the 3.6.9 rc6 stuff with the patches and launcher 5.4. Everything is looking great it is stable even with my crappy 9800 Pro card. I created a new pilot, deleted all the other pilots and just started playing the retail FS2 campaign. My problem is in the first training mission when the instructor orders me to "maintain your maximum speed" with the "\" key the instructor does not recognize that I have pressed the key. The Myrmidon ship responds and goes to max speed but the instructor does not give awknologment that I have done so. The mission cannot proceed without it. If I skip that training mission and proceed to the next ones then the pilot cannot recieve his authorization and pilots wings.

I know this is somewhat trivial but I wanted to play the campaign all the way through again just for fun.

I did check the key bindings in the options page there are no conflicts and the "\" is the only thing bound to that command.

Just a thought is there any way to continue the campaign without completing the training missions? if so then the above doesn't matter since the ship responds just like it is supposed to.

Any way thanks for the help in advance.

Any training mission can be skipped without it affecting the rest of the campaign. There's a little button in the top corner to do so. Only training mission 3 needs to be completed to gain the wings. You must not have taken more than 10% damage before killing the final drone on that mission but it doesn't care about the other two training missions one iota.

To make the max speed thing work you have to press \ and then maintain your top speed for 2 seconds. If you keep twisting about it may prevent you from doing that so just travel in a straight line.

If that still doesn't work you should stick it in Mantis and I'll look at it.

I have not tried it yet (work, kids homework, mowing the lawn etc.) will try tommorrow and let you know. I also had heat issues with my video card but when I cleaned out the fans and heatsinks on cpu and video card my pc wouldn't reboot .  I reseated the video card and still had to do a system restore to get it working . Good thing is, it is working and temps for card and cpu have dropped back down to workable levels so far.

Thanks again for the info. Who would believe that a game this old could still be great. Although somehow I think you guys get as big a kick out of seeing if something you code could work as you do actually playing the game. Still I am very envious (sp?) of the skill and knowledge you guys have from moddlers to coders to fredders. Me, I think I've done something cool just getting a new build to run without a debug spew.

More actually. Apart from playtesting I barely play the game now. I'm in it for the modding mostly :)
