Well, it's all for naught, really. No matter what, the chances of a Halo movie actually being good outside of the whole 'it's a Halo movie! Squeee!'-factor are, well, effectively nil.

Seriously, name me a single video-game movie that wasn't complete balls.

Actually IIRC Tron was a movie based on fictional computer games that sparked of a number of games based on the movie.

However, I quite liked the Tombraider movies, if only to see Angelina Jolie in hot pants and silver PVC. ;7

Does machinema count?

To be fair, Mario Brothers wasn't balls, it was complete toss and the Resident Evil films had Michelle Rodriguez die, which is always a good thing in my book.

Seriously, name me a single video-game movie that wasn't complete balls.
That comes down to taste. And specify a movie that isn't "complete balls". Doom is a popular example. The movie has nothing to do with the game, exept that it happens on Mars. But it has big guns, big sweaty badass marines, blood and monstars. So it might not be a good movie, it is very entertaining.
Resident Evil movies? Zombies. Plain and simple, and always entertaining.
Tomb Raider movies? Well, they have a number of good things. I'll list a few; Angelina Jolies breasts, Angelina Jolies ass, Angelina Jolies legs, Angelina Jolies lips, Angelina Jolies eyes, and so on. And ofcourse lots of shootin' and action and stuff. But mainly Angelina Jolie is the thing that makes the movie entertaining.
I havent yet seen Silent Hill, so I can't personally say anything about it. But what I have heard and read, it is a good movie if you are familiar with the game. That could make it actually good movie, but as I said I need to see it first.
Video-game movie that is complete balls, I'll risk my sanity and name one; Bloodrayne. :ick:

So while there are no "good" game based movies, there are those I like to watch every once in a while. Usually when I have a hangover and I need to "clear my mind" (name a video-game movie that requires you to think?).

I'm sorry, but I enjoyed Super Mario Brothers immensely. Not in the way the filmakers intended, of course. It just has this incompetent charm to it that I really love. Never understood why people like Mikhael hated it so much.

Heh, I was going to say that but it's a bit more of a stretch of being 'based on' a movie.  Still, truly awesome.   I wish they'd make a movie or TV show like THAT.

Mortal Kombat.

Marvel before it's insurmountable greatness.  This movie was ****ing boss.

Okay, i'll conceed that the first Resident Evil actually wasn't all that bad. In fact, it was definitely one of the better zombie-movies out at the time, and it had Milla Jovovich and Michelle Rodriguez to boot. So, that's one... sort of.

Now, Tomb Raider... not even the awesome power of Angelina Jolie in skintight spandex could save that train-wreck.

After Mefustae's comment I was only reading the thread to see if anyone had beaten me to posting the exact same thing you did.

So, Mortal Kombat is good? In all honesty, i've only seen the sequel... well, actually only the first 10 minutes of the sequel, which was so God-awful that I never bothered seeing Mortal Kombat 1.

Do not judge Mortal Kombat on the poor quality sequel. I think the first one is a pretty decent movie and yet I did the exact same thing after the first 20 minutes or so of the sequel. The first one is a love it or hate it movie. If you check the IMDB you'll notice it has a poor score but if you check the comments you see that pretty much everyone who bothered to comment really enjoyed it.

Tron wasn't based on a game, there was a game released based on Tron not long after it came out. And Tron was a bloody good movie, especially the music. The second Tron computer game sucked in my opinion. :p
