On my country, the elections for president and other offices just began, now I'm sure most people here dont really care about this, not even I do that much. But a couple of things this time are different and left me somewhat concerned about the health of the democracy here (well, of what little of it we have here), quite a good part of the people are saying that they'll be voting null on the elections (I dont know if this is the right word on english), that came as a ''shock'' to the government and now they're investing heavily on propraganda to get the people to vote but they themselves brought this because of the massive corruption in place.
The other, is the quality of the candidates, the great majority of the people that are running for a office here you can easily tell just by looking that they dont know the first thing about politics, the worse is that some of them will managed to get elected, a good example, IMO, on their ''level'' is that let's say if Paris Hilton tried to get into politics.
A third thing, is that the candidates for the presidency on their campaign are being show to us as god-like, as we were blessed to even be on their presence, and instead of showing their ideas they're just bashing each other, true, this is what always happened, but this time is on a scale that left me speechless. Sorry but just had to write this. :doubt:
Edit: forgot to say one thing, the next time dictatorship comes around here, it wont have a hard time setting itself up, most people will exactly what they did last, support them even not knowing whats going on.

Which country do you live in?

Brazil, largest country on South America, 180 million people of wich 120 million will be voting now (if I'm right about those numbers, I'm not 100% sure but its close to that).

I heard a few things, don't know too much about it though.

I've read that Lula is probably going to win pretty comfortably, unless that third candiate, Helena something, the leftist, acts as a spoiler and divides the left vote.
Pretty much the same in every country, you just go with the lesser of avaialable evils and hope nothing too bad happens. Though if you ask me, obviously from an uninformed gringo perspective, Lula kind of sold out his base, plus the corruption scandals etc, so he should answer for it.

I'm not sure who will win, but every single government once elected gets at least a couple of scandals and the populace ''forgets'' that, it happened now and it'll happen later. I dont want to pick the lesser evil since I know whats going to happen if I do that.
