Title: Science Vessel Prefix
Post by: Snail on August 20, 2006, 02:25:37 pm
While browsing the forums, I found out that some people think that the designation for a science vessel was different from what I had always believed. I had always thought that the prefix was "GTSC" for Galactic Terran Science Cruiser, but I noticed that a majority of people wrote "GTSc" for (i suspect) Galactic Terran SCience. Which one is 'canonically' correct?

The canon one I believed is spelled GTSC, but I don't believe there's a canon source that says whether it stands for Science Cruiser or Science.

A significant minority use GTSc, but I'm pretty sure the majority do it the correct way. :p

The easiest way to settle it is to look at the ship table.  Cv and Fr have one uppercase and one lowercase letter, whereas SC has two uppercase letters.  Therefore SC represents two words.

Incorrect. The SC can still represent Science because the FS1 tables used GTFR and not GTFr for freighter. The Faustus was made in FS1, and no-one changed it after FS2 (GTFR Poseidon, as opposed GTFr Triton).

But look at the tech descriptions.  The FS2 tech descriptions mention "GTSC Faustus", "GTFr Poseidon", and "GTFr Triton".  The Poseidon was lowercased from FS1 to FS2.  The Faustus wasn't.  The reason can only be that freighter is one word and science cruiser is two words.

Um... the Triton, for some reason, also has a capital... Well, I think it is Science Cruiser, personally.

I distinctly remember the faustus being reffered to as a science cruiser several times in fs1
