No, God PRODUCES FoxNews!
K, I'm not sure what to make of this. I agree with the passage in question, but I think it pertains more to women pastors than women Sunday school teachers, who are little more than nannies. There's also the inconsistency of applying a double standard to the church vs. the council. I'd like to see them have a little backbone and apply the same standard across the board.

*shiver*
I've never been more glad I don't believe in it. :p

But if they expand their beliefs outside of their immediate domain of the church, it becomes a whole new ballgame. A political ballgame. Meaning people openly oppose idea without it being seen as an attack on the church itself.
Wait a minute... Goob, is that a Flux Capacitor in your avatar!?
-
just to note, australia has always been in the future as far as the US is concerned. :p
AEST for the win

I'm not quite sure I follow you. Could you rephrase that?

Yes. Apropos for this thread. :D

Okay, basically, right now they're saying that women shouldn't teach sunday-school. That's a rather sexist notion, but it's within their church, so people really have to accept it. If LaBouf tried to impose that same rationale upon the city council, there is no longer the protective shield of 'we're just adhering to our religion'. Effectively, people could then openly complain without having to worry about respecting religion.
And shouldn't that flux-capacitor be yellow & white?

Then again she had been teaching there for 54 YEARS. I wonder why they would suddenly turn around and do this......
-
To be honest my only thoughts on the matter really are a love of the delicious irony of someone who taught the bible for 54 years being done down by the people she probably taught it to.
The only thing I need to figure out is whether she did her job badly or too well. :)

I'd have expected God to have better production values....

It does, however, explain his sporadic cameo appearances in The Simpsons. ;)

you expect them to have some backbone to violate the constitution and the laws of the united states by engaging in bigotry?
how enlightening

If they're adhering so "strongly" to the Bible, I wonder if they have actually read the Old Testament, as well. It's actually a scary thing to ask for a show of hands in a church as to how many people have not read the entire Bible, from Genesis to Revelation.
As for that passage, it's been said many a time that establishing theology on a single verse is, to be blunt, stupid. Besides, there's another instance where Paul gives his personal opinion on a matter, fully acknowledging that it is, in fact, his opinion, and not God's say on the matter, such as the issue of marriage.
All the moreso in this case, where he says "I do not allow a woman..." - it's obviously his personal opinion on the matter, undoubtably influenced by the culture and values of the time.
-
The bible should never be interpeted literally. If it is, then it causes nothing but trouble.
-
Sandwich: word
Kosh: infact many sects of christianity consider it blashemphy to literally interpret the bible
-
If you take the bible as literally 'Gods word as written by men', I find it hard to understand how you could follow it line by line, knowing human nature to, well, make **** up. I'm sure there's a bit in there saying that it's wrong to assume the mind of God, yet that seems to be par-for-the-course with any sort of Christian sect.
-
Buuuut... isn't the old testament like, the bible equivalent for Jews? (or whatever the newspeak for their religion is...)
Annd.... isn't Islam based on the christian religion, with an extra section added?
At least that's what I seem to remember.
If this is wrong, someone tell me.
Hey, wait a sec, that guy said women are worse then men! He said the are EQUAL in everything, EXCEPT religion. That means, on average, they are worse! Quantifying stuff is hard... Must... not... continue... this... train... of... thought....!
-
Well, yeah.
Judasim was around first, then with Christ's coming christianity was born. Then about 600 years later, Mohammed claimed to have a vision of either Jesus or Mary and started Islam, using it to unite/conquer arabia and what was much of persia. It's all based on the old testament but diverges from the new on alot of fairly fundamental points, such as the virgin birth. Muslims think it's fairly bizarre that even an incarnation of a God should come from a woman.
-
Ok, good, the general idea is right...
Some people seem to think Islam was around a lot longer...
-
Actually it was Gabriel. I think.
