Im kinda used to DivX, and it gives me less problems, as far as what I can remember. Could anyone tell me why one is better than the other?

The quality of the two is more or less comparable, but Xvid is royalty-free and is available on more platforms, which imo gives it a slight edge.

I actually found this little comparison helpful:

Divx is not all that great. Im getting some movies and I wasnt sure if I was to make them into Xvid or DivX Format. Xvid beats out DIvx in every test...

Except for the compatibility and reliability test, right?

The best combos these days are x264/AAC and Theora/Vorbis. The first one MAY have licensing issues especially if used commercially. The latter however is completely free of licensing issues.

wrong
xvid beats divx in EVERYTHING
infact xvid and divx are forks of the same original codec - all the talent went to xvid when the dicks who own divx went comercial
