Title: The Ace (render)
Post by: jonskowitz on November 25, 2001, 03:57:00 pm
Here's my first attempt at including FX in a render... and it sucks serious eggs.

The scene depicted below is a maneuver known as a "Tache Weave" developed an american ace in WWII.  It is a riposte maneuver where two craft bring down an aggressor craft using teamwork.  When attacked, the two craft split formation, each going in a different direction.  The agressor has to choose one of them to follow and will give chase to one of the craft.  The two wingmen immediately turn and head back toward each other, the one being chased leads the aggressor into the gunsights of the other.

The inspiration for the render came from playing the Starfighter conversion in team vs. mode on my friend's LAN.  The F-44 can out turn the type-39 so conventional dogfighting will fail, you have to trick the western player into flying into your wingman's gunsights.  The other maneuver you can use is an extend and escape, using your superiour top speed to out-run the F-44 until you get enough distance to turn around for another charge.

I told you that It (//"http://www.jskgames.homestead.com/files/home.html") would be done by November, well, mostly anyway...

You think that's bad? I've done a lot worse... trust me  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

The render's great; very cool. But in FS I prefer my own type of "Tache Weave"... where, if you are being pursued by any number of hostile fighters, simply slam your burners and fly as fast as possible to the nearest enemy capship. Then, at the last minute, steer away, and watch the enemy ships behind you. *thud*  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

Does that even count as a render? It's more of a...ugly block thing.

you carn't do it in single.

What you can do is stay near a cap. Then when enemy fighters attack you they get wasted by the cap turrets!

problem solved

Now who is the Ace here, ladies and gents?  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

Anyhow, why would I ever fly a Chinese spacecraft? The parts are made in China!

problem solved

Specifically, the capship's missile batteries solve the problem.  I'm still working on making the game more playable for you out there, please bare with me.  The problem is that the AI is far more precice than a human pilot ever could be.  Not to mention the fact that the only time they seem to be accurate is when they're shooting at me  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/rolleyes.gif)
You should try multiplayer!  Even the stupidly simple "deathmatch" scenario is freakin cool vs. other real-live human(?) opponants.  ...and like I said in the render caption, it was multiplay (with real live wingman) that inspired the piece.

I flew it for the challange, and the opportunity to embarrass some of the F-44 pilots   (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

Oh dear, I just thought of the most horrible, sad joke. I'll spare it from you... unless you select it. Here's the Less Lame™ version:

Yes, it's art. It's abstract...    (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

And here is the Mega Sad™ version:

(http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/lol.gif)  You know guyz there is a multiplayer campaign in the MOD that can settle this   (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif) ("The Best of the Best", and no fair hacking the *.TBL stats   (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif))

Sure it's broken right now, but the fix is easy (I forgot to give team 2 enough weapons   (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/redface.gif)).  Just give team 2 four type-7 cannons and 100 Redeye SRM missiles in each of the seven missions of the campaign.
