Almost sounds like you're using the -mod feature, but haven't selected a mod directory for it to look in.

i have selected no mod over and over again.....just frustrating as hell

Find your launcher.ini file and see if there's a -mod flag in the list

FS2.exe? dont try to run retail FreeSpace 2 exe with SCP launcher... Use SCP .exes instead.

You need to make sure that all command line parameters are unset when running the FS2.exe. It simply doesn't have a clue what the FS2_Open ones mean (Except for some of the multiplayer ones).
Furthermore if you're trying to play online you're probably wasting your time using the retail fs2.exe as it can't connect to FS2NetD and the new PXO is still under construction. The only way you can play using that is if you know the IP address of the person you're trying to connect to.
FS2_Open (with or without mods) is what you should be running really.

Lot of help folks......thanks...got it working by just switching to and staying with FS2 Open :D
