Title: Prerendered glamour shots
Post by: Scooby_Doo on August 26, 2006, 11:20:39 pm
Playing around with Maxs rendering, as I'm redoing my ships. Just wish I had a fast enough to render these things in less than an hour LOL.

Way way way more than an hour... I just start the rendering when I go to bed and by morning it's done. I keep forgetting to see how long it took.  I'm thinking at least 4 or more.

And I thought I had it bad when it took 2~3 hours to render this (http://members.ispwest.com/gregg1/oldweb/kif1.jpg) in trueSpace 3.0 on a AMD 5x86 160Mhz (hotted up 486 at 4x40mhz bus) with 8 megs RAM.

It's got turrets on! I could refurb it for FS2... Front view here. (http://members.ispwest.com/gregg1/oldweb/shipyard.html)

Well mines newer than that, its a P2@450, but throw in raytraced materials and worse yet..... mental ray tracers  :nervous:

But I'm totally in love with the shiney reflections and fuzzy realistic shadows  ;)

we should start a Scooby Doo fund so people can donate money for him to throw that piece of crap away.

i'll give you my old AMD Athlon Thunderbird 1Ghz system for free if you want it :lol:
Radeon 9200 128MB
256MB PC133

Post by: spartan_0214 on August 31, 2006, 06:03:41 pm
those both look like Freelancer ships. the first one looks like the Hawk, the Piranha looks like second Corsair fighter (can't remember name) and the Rapier looks like a skewed F-18...
Title: Re: Prerendered glamour shots
Post by: Scooby_Doo on August 31, 2006, 06:42:53 pm
The hornet was based on Armada's Phantom.  The Ecantona privater 2's Ecantona, Pirahna was a canon version of WC5 Pirahna and the rapier is a heavly modified WC1 Rapier.

Are these all from Wing Commander?

And for the love of god, Scooby and bizzybody (especially you) need to get some real computers and get rid of these old school "classics" that belong in a museum.........

I do have a decent computer. That crufty olde tarted up 486 is what I had some years ago. ;) sitting in front of me now is a Dell B110 with a 2.53Ghz Celeron, though it's not mine.

My PC is currently a homebuilt with an ABIT KG7-RAID motherboard and an Athlon XP 2000+ CPU. It's been in pieces for a while. The RAM when *pfft* so I yanked it all apart to do more work on the 12 bay tower case. Still haven't put it back together... I'm saving up for a really biiig jump in performance. Probably going to go with a PCI Express type setup but not SATA drives since I have already have 15 + 40 + 80 + 80 + 160 + 250 gigs in IDE drives. 625 gigs unformatted capacity, plus another 18 should I reformat the drive from the 233Mhz Macintosh G3 beige desktop. (Has OS X 10.1.5 on it, the most highly useless Macintosh operating system version ever. I should get 10.3.x for it.)

Looks good... $81.50 wow amd prices have dropped through the floor LOL
The psu worries me a bit, never heard of it before. 1GB ram... good, especially if your going to be doing a lot of rendering or having both your paint program and your 3d app running at the same time.  I'd personally skip the RAID even though it's builtin (unless you do raid 1). What about sound?

*Compares prices with newegg*

*Looks at total cost of own slightly inferior computer*

*Cries*

Sound? Hmmm... if the mobo doesn't have it built in, I already have a Soundblaster 24 Live! PCI card. And I have a Pinnacle TV card with composite and S-video in for vidieo capture. (The RF antenna input will be obsolete February 19, 2007 as analog television broadcast ends in the USA then.)

I was going to get the mobo/memory/cpu earlier this year, but conroe but a hold on all that. Now i'm trying to decide on the ASUS p5b Deluxe or Gigabyte D3 mobo.

it's still a Dell.

no matter how much you upgrade it, that ain't gonna change.
Title: Re: Prerendered glamour shots
Post by: bizzybody on September 06, 2006, 05:29:12 am
Urrrr? I'm not upgrading my mother's Dell. Noooo. Those parts are going into the Megatower 2000. ;) That's a 12 bay full tower case I bought in 2000, this'll be the third major overhaul for it. It was originally a 300Mhz Slot One Pentium III, then it became a Socket A system (with a brand new board that had a defective sec. IDE port out of the box), then got a new ABIT KG7-RAID board which it's had for at least two years while the rest remained pretty much the same and slowly aquired an accretion of hard drives and other peripherals.*

Sadly, last year I had to retire 'Old Putty'. That was the very first 1.44M floppy drive I ever owned, bought him brand new around 1992 or 1993. As he aged and was moved from PC to PC, his putty colored faceplate stood out distinctively against a parade of various shades of white, eggshell and beige case fronts. But he eventually developed vision problems and had trouble reading, even after wiping his glasses with cleaning fluid, then his mind went and he could no longer remember that he'd switched disks and kept repeating the same table of contents over and over.

At least temporarily, the Megatower 2000 V3.0 will have one of those two-in-one 1.4M/1.2M 5.25" floppy drives installed. I've some software on 5.25" disks I want to save. I hope my new board will have BIOS support for 5.25" floppy drives.

*It maxed at six IDE hard drives, IDE DVD burner, IDE CD-RW, one SCSI hard drive, SCSI Zip 100, SCSI 640 meg MO drive, PCI modem, PCI NIC, AGP videocard, PCI USB 2.0 card, PCI Soundblaster Live! and I tried to shoehorn in a PCI Firewire card but it absolutely refused to share resources between one PCI slot and the onboard Highpoint RAID controller. And of course a custom BIOS with the final code release for the RAID controller that ABIT refused to integrate into their official BIOS.

That is quite possibly the most "SQUEEEEEEEEEEEE" I've ever felt towards a Vampire.

*faints* :yes:

btw the other pirate fighters an Ashearer right?

Alan Shearer,
Eric Cantona
I think  you could make an Acole, or an Iwright perhaps?
Title: Re: Prerendered glamour shots
Post by: Scooby_Doo on September 22, 2006, 04:10:49 pm
Which one? I haven't done the Ashearer yet, looks like a good model (minus the hole in the middle)

On this thread:
cobra=trembler,
encantona=encantona,
drakthi = P3's concept art,
Hornet = Armada Phantom
talon = talon
the others are direct coorelation (i.e. demon = demon, vampire = vampire...)

UGH I just realized i misspelled encantona on the glamour shot (ecantona)  :hopping:

Also since CIC now has mutiple views of each ship I can do this much quicker.
