Title: Whats wrong with this mission? keeps crashing :/
Post by: icewind_123 on August 31, 2006, 04:36:02 am
Hi, this for now just a "fun mission", means a battle, no radio messages yet...

But it keeps crashing at some time, tested it on 2 different PCs, different configuration.
If any of you could look into this i would be glad  :) . Download is at bottom.

Quote
Error: Cannot load mission -- for wing Tr'ka, ship Tr'ka 4 is not present in #Objects section.

File:\fs2_open\code\mission\missionparse.cpp
Line: 4441
[This filename points to the location of a file on the computer that built this executable]

Call stack:
------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------

the mission counts 104 objects (means ships) but I think the obejct limit is around 100 (#0-99)...
this made the program "forget" about objects #100+; thus creating a wing which was suposed to contain 4 fighter of which only 1 was present for the program
-> a crash when stating (but this was not what you are looking for right???)

/EDIT: encoutered no other trouble after I kicked that wing out of the mission and "repaired" the object count -- attached a modified version of the file

Yep. Going over 100 objects is a big no no.

I think it would be best if we could warn people about that before they screw up their missions by saving them I suppose. I might have a look into it later.

Thanks for the help  , but is there really no way to go over this object size? I Like to fight battles with alot of fighters and capital size ships. Maybe worth a look of the SCP? :P

BoE Syndrome is it? ;7

You should go for quality, instead of quantity. The feel of a big battle can be achived even without bazillion ships. Besides, 100 ships should be enought for any mission if you ask me. :doubt:

icewind_123. Check my FAQ's Glossary with respect to Battle of Endor Syndrome.

If you're going to insist on making big missions you need to know the pitfalls.

I tried it but crashed big time.  I got a serious windows error,  it did not even go into debug.  I think the shadows don't use jump points.  There was a way to have then just appear.

*vorlon mode*
The size is the demanded...
Use Waves...
Waves of fighter wings...
No capital wings...

I think the shadows don't use jump points.  There was a way to have then just appear.
