This is probably a stupid noob question, but:
I don't seem to be able to get fs2 open to run. I've downloaded 3.6.7, the launcher, and the mv files. They are all where the documentation says to put them.
In the launcher, i've told it what .exe to use and configured everything, again according to the docs.
When I click "Run" the screen flashes grey, then goes back to windows. No error messages, the program just won't launch.
My computer is an ancient 500mhz celeron (no laughing please), 196 mb ram, windows 98, voodoo5. DirectX is upgraded to the latest version. (That fixed the problem that kept the launcher from running).
Thanks in advance for any help.

Do have the retail files as well or only the FS open files?

That voodoo 5 is way too old to run modern FSO builds. Anything using HTL should be considered to have similar requirements to a modern commercial game.
What you may wish to try is using 3.5.5 or older pre-HTL builds. They don't look anywhere near as good as 3.6.9 does but if you can find the media VPs that came with it you'll probably find it looks better than retail.
As an added bonus you'll be able to play the Casualties of War mod while the rest of us get upset that it crashes with HTL enabled builds :)

Ok, that got it to launch, but it won't load the mission files. It also gives me errors that it doesn't recognize the command lines that turn on things like the 3d radar, etc. should I be using an older version of the launcher and mv files?

You definitely need older VPs. I have no idea where you'd get them from though.
As for the launcher I've got no idea if the new launcher will work with older versions. Most likely if you delete the launcher6.ini file it probably will.

3.5.5 works with launcher 4 and no VP files. Now to find the old VPs...
