Lovely, and using greater detail seems to work with these.  How come you've changed/gone that way?

Greater detail? By that do you mean a higher resolution (ie. 1046*768, instead of 800*600)?  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

No, they just seem to be clearer/cleaner.

Well, I use a 800x600 resolution at home and atwork so I normally open them up in Adobe Photoshop 5.5 and then resize them to 800x600 and save them as BMP formats in the C:\Windows folder. Now they fit.
