Title: Fix your automailers
Post by: Tahna Los on September 05, 2006, 08:35:34 am
I had tried to switch e-mail accounts from a Yahoo account to a Hotmail account.  It said that it was going to send me the confirmation e-mail to the hotmail account, only I never got it.  Also checked the Junk mail folder, not there either.  It was only after entering a friend's e-mail account that I was able to get in.

Someone needs to take a look at this.  It is a pain in the rear to not be able to enter the site after changing to a Hotmail-based e-mail.

Cheers,

When it rains, it pours.

Here is a breakdown of what happened:

1) I discover that my account is pointing to my old, spam-infested Yahoo! account.  So I decide to change it to my Hotmail account.
2) Forum software says that it will send me an e-mail with an activation code.
3) I don't see e-mail in my hotmail account, assume that perhaps the e-mail is slow.
4) Next morning, log into HLP and realize crap, I'm not logged in.  crap I have to check for that activation e-mail.
5) No message in inbox or junk mail inbox (in case it was sent there)
6) click link to resend activation.  But it says: "An Error has Occurred, the Activation mail was successfully sent."  Wha?
7) Still no message in inbox or junk mail.
8) Try several times, no luck.
9) In a desperate plea for help, I send e-mail through to Sandwich through his blog.
10) Realize that I have a "borrowed account" from my friend.  Use that account to get my activation e-mail and log in. (think: whew)
11) Sandwich sees my request, sends it to Goober5000 who fixes this with a new password.  Only one problem: I got Sandwich's e-mail, but not Goobers.  It turns out that the Spam filter on my hotmail account designated Goober5000's mail as spam.  It had the changed password, which explains why I couldn't log in afterwards........

Sheesh.  Talk about a horrendous experience, but hey, its good to be back in the familiar realm of insanity.  Sanity doesn't cut it for me these days.

Hotmail doesn't like Mantis either.  It's more likely Hotmail's fault rather than HLP's and Mantis's and Yahoo's fault.

Solution: don't use Hotmail.

A lot of mailservers will filter out accounts like Hotmail.com as part of the Spam filter as well. I know this because AOL was on Pipex's list of 'Sites likely to send Spam', and me and Sharon, who were living at opposite ends of the country at the time, had to kick up a stink so we could even send each other Emails :/

I'll send you an invite to GMail if you would like one, just give the word.

Someone needs to take a look at this.  It is a pain in the rear to not be able to enter the site after changing to a Hotmail-based e-mail.

It's not hard-light and it's not you.  I've been waiting for almost two weeks for an 'email activation' from hard-light.  I checked my hotmail junk folder etc.

It has to do with Microsoft, Windows Live, MSN, hotmail, etc.  To make a long story short, a few months ago they were having *so much* success with their out bound junk email spam filters that they decided to apply it to their inbound mail as well.

As usuall, it didn't work.  Many people, including you and me obviously, aren't even seeing the mail at all.  This has effected hundreds of thousands of people if not millions although they like to keep the numbers down.  (okay maybe only a few tens of thousands).

For the last ten years I've used Yahoo as my 'normal' email and 'hotmail' as my spam spot.  I don't understand WHY you'd want to move from Yahoo to Hotmail, especially after they got their drag and drop beta going.  Or use Gmail.  Hotmail has sucked since the first day MS took them over.
