THUNDERCATS, Hunh!?!?
Merrick here…
…with a message of dark portent from a new source identifying himself as DM Danny.
We went back and forth with Danny, getting some details in order before he spilled the beans. The resulting e-mail speaks for itself.
Here’s DM Danny…
Quote:
WB animation is remaking the Thundercats as an animated TV series.
The animation style is whimsical, Americanized-anime, along the lines of Teen Titans.
The setting is modern-day Earth, in a major city (possibly LA)
The Thundercats are all teenagers.
Their leader is Snarf (!) who is now a mystic with a "third" eye.
Each of the Thundercats has a weapon with an "Eye of Thunderra" and transformative powers (not just Lion-O)
When they aren't fighting evil, the Thundercats play together as a rock band. That's not a typo, or a joke. They are rockin' cats in their present form.
Mum-Ra now has wings.
And I bet he laughs a bit more than he used to =P
Developing...
So...first LOONATICS and now...this?!?!
See, this is our reward for buying all of those DVD sets of the original series: more THUNDERCATS…”reinvented” for a new generation. You know, because the same high DVD sales that likely served as an impetuous for this relaunch…uhhh, what?...also suggest fans of the original concept aren’t out there & willing to spend money? And, the same fans who dropped hundreds of dollars on DVD sets…to own a favorite show from their childhood…would be ESTATIC to have the same series resurrected in some bastardized, uninspired format! I am, of course, being sarcastic here.
Thundercats as a rock band…is…you know…really kind of perfect when you think about it. They can sing their own theme song, for example, probably in a rock video motif at the top of every episode. And, the original opening music…
…can now be rendered with in era-appropriate hip-hop! "Thundercats, Yo! Yo! Yo!"
I wonder how ballsy The Powers That Be will actually be, here? Disney’s CHEETAH GIRLS, for example, have enjoyed some degree of success as “band” as well as a television movie/performance presence. Wonder if WB will go the same route with poor Panthro & Co.? It could hurt so very much.
Of course, this does open the door to a highly desirable crossover: THUNDERCATS –VS- THE CHEETAH GIRLS. Which would be a true, fetishistic delight!
Why is my childhood being destroyed so.............. :shaking:
-
I remember this show from when I was younger. I loved it. I'll reserve judgement until I actually see an episode. But I hope they don't slaughter it...If they do... :snipe:
-
Betcha Mumm-Ra the everliving wishes he was dead now.
-
Dear god.. this can't be good.
-
For some reason I don't think this may geared at our age group.
-
Couldn't they at least call it "Junior Thundercats" or something? At least then we could tell what looks like crap apart from the old show we used to love.
-
Ok I'll say it.
Thunderkittens.
There you go.
-
At least it's not urinating on the ashes of my childhood this time, since I only caught it rerunized on Toonami...
-
:sigh:
-
I watched SilverHawks more than Thundercats.
-
Is nothing sacred?
-
You guys are acting like they took all the old copies of the Thundercats and burned them.
Just don't watch the new ones, geez.
-
Having come later to it then the rest of you, I have to say that the original wasn't too good either. :p
-
Yeah, I guess I didn't watch it that often. Inspector Gadget on the other hand...
-
Why is my childhood being destroyed so.............. :shaking:
Let's take this in prespective a bit: Thundercats was never very good. Ever. I won't say this mess will improve it, in fact I think it'll make it worse (see Loonatics), but your childhood is built on ****ty Saturday morning cartoons. Destroying it isn't a bad thing, if you think about it.
-
Meh, I found the reimagining of Scooby Doo far more repulsive. Hell, i've never even seen Thundercats.
-

Tis true, Thundercats was generally only really watched because it was a cartoon and it was usually on between 2 good cartoons after school. It was the whole 'Thundercats Ho!' thing that made it so cringeworthy.
I suppose the Litmus test for a 'good' childhood cartoon for me was 'Did you used to discuss the plot with your mates at school'. I don't recall ever being asked if I'd seen yesterdays episode of Thundercats.
-
The Stargate teen parody was better than this sounds...
-
Centurions was purile tosh, Thundercats was talked about all the time at my primary school, It must be a regional thing. Beckenham was quite fond of Visionaries and Exo-Squad i'm told.............
-
oh dear god, nothing is truly sacred anymore... nothing...

Oh thank God they're just reruns. Had anyone begun plans to 'reimagine' Danger-Mouse, it would have been anthrax-in-the-mail time... again... :nervous:
-
Centurions was atrocious and if I had my way the master tapes would be burnt. Then again I didn't enjoy many of the kids animated series back then. He Man and She Ra were both way too silly and their patronising (even for a kid) pep talks at the end of each episode pissed me off. Shouldn't it be She Woman anyway? I think maybe Defenders of the Earth was around that time too. That one had a party magician complete with black hat and rabbit as a hero. Respect -> window. Those are the only ones I can remember right now.
-
His name was Mandrake, DOE was excellent, AND Miss Walker (phantoms daughter) was a hottie....
-
Anyone remeber the Ulysses series? I used to love that cartoon
-
Buy it then...

Ok, have it in The Queens English if you're fussy ;7
-
I think I only caught the tail end of Exo Squad...'twas about that time I first stumbled onto a Robotech episode, don't remember how though. But I was basically ruined as far as Saturday morning went from that point. :p
Although to be honest I vaguely liked Centurions when they reran it on Action Planet in the days before Cartoon Network had Toonami.
-
I had the toys,i was about 5 back then so it was allowed. Ace Mcloud is the best.
*realisation sets in*

Teen Titans.
My former roommate in university always watched that show. I could never understand why.....
-
Teen Titans sounds like a dodgy porn movie to me.
-
I would have liked Dangermouse but I hold a grudge against David Jason for Only Fools and Horses. :hopping:
-

What, because you didn't like Only fools or because they stopped making it?
-
Only Fools = braindead humour for braindead people.
-
Only Fools = braindead humour for braindead people.
:jaw: How can you say that!!!! It really had some very good social commentary for it's time, it even moved with the times, and there were some very classic comedy moments!
-
I've seen people shot for less, Dont knock local london humour sonny jim
-
That makes IP the first British person to ever say that they don't like Only Fools in my earshot.

Rab C was ace; you just had to be Glasweigan to understand it.

And so began the Sit-Com War.

All countries produce ****e. What have you produced that compares against Monty Python, Blackadder or Red Dwarf?
Hell your country is so comedy poor that you have to hold a festival to get people to come to you :p

Can we somehow IP ban non-Brits from this thread? I don't want to be able to access it anymore! :p
-
Aldo - "Teen Titans sounds like a dodgy porn movie to me."
I see, and you don't find ironic you posted that on "Hard Light Productions?" (Sounds like a dodgy porno studio to me)...
And whoever said most of our childhoods were based on "****ty Saturday morning cartoons".
where have you been for the last 10-15 years? The **** has gotten DEEPER and SMELLIER! (WAY!)
Incidently I still wear my old Black Thundercats shirt to work occasionally (1/month). Though people think I am a pimp sometimes when I randomly yell out, "HOooooooooooooooo!". They think someone owes me money or something... :wtf: I'm like "Look at the SHIRT Biatch!"
-

That was me, and I haven't been watching Saturday morning cartoons for the last few years. In any case, yes, I know they still aren't very good. They've never been any good until you get to the them showing old Looney Toon shorts. It hasn't gotten deeper though, the depth is the same, our perspective merely changes. We can see the ****, but instead of growing out of it, we can see it getting piled up. Age causes it.
-
Blaphsemy! Looney Toons was ALWAYS good!
-
Tommy Lee Jones in Under siege...........
Roadrunner for the win !
-

You're just jealous you're not British. Admit it. You want us to invade you and make you part of the New British Empire. Tea and biscuits for everyone.

Pip Pip, Tally ho, Chocks away old chap, what what, Guffaw !

Americas just a pawn anyway............ :nervous:

Sorry ol' chap - been there, done that, got the tshirt. ;)
-
Yes, and consequently blew **** up including an MP. You messianic jews are a right rowdy bunch. :p
-
Sweet Grud, this is getting out of hand, How can a Thundercat thred turn so racist
-
Anyone remeber the Ulysses series? I used to love that cartoon
Good but Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors kicked its arse.
waaa, you don't know how long I have been trying to remember the name of that series!
*big hug*
-
Anyone remember Chorlton and the Wheelies? That was a creepy show.
-
Chorlton and the wheelies was before even my time, I remember the Flumps though! :(
-
I'm showing my age aren't I. :nervous:
-
waaa, you don't know how long I have been trying to remember the name of that series!
*big hug*
What's really freaky if you're a B5 fan is that they have the same creator. Which does make you wonder if Gillian was where he got the idea for the Technomages :)
-
JMS was involved with that :eek2:. Clearly he didn't find his stride till he started writing for The New Twilight Zone then.
-
Real ghostbusters too.
Personally I think his "Something in the walls" Twilight Zone episode is one of my favourites :)
-
HLP operaties in cycles, Once one of these cycles happens, someone brings up JMS making Jayce etc.
-
Actually it's just me.
I do it a lot :)
-
I probably knew and forgot. Or wiped the fact from my mind.
-
Yes, and consequently blew **** up including an MP. You messianic jews are a right rowdy bunch. :p
Yup! Except it wasn't messianic jews, just plain-vanilla jews. :p
-
Shalom people, i'm off to drink my sorrows down the pan. ;7
-
Anyone remember Chorlton and the Wheelies? That was a creepy show.
If it makes you feel any better, I've mentioned Chorlton and the Wheelies a few times to be met by blank stares ;)
-
Blaphsemy! Looney Toons was ALWAYS good!
Uh, yeah. I said that. The only good ones are those shorts. Perhaps I wasn't clear on that point.
-
No way, man - Looney Tunes rocks!
:p
-
ROAD RUNNER FTW, Elmer fudd is gey, :doubt:
-
Just because he let Bugs Bunny put on a dress and make up and kiss him does not make him gay.
-
So what does make him gey then? :eek2:
-
Well if you pay attention you'll notice that he was always upset when he figured out that he'd picked up a ladyboy :)
-
ROAD RUNNER FTW
I agree. The episode with Coyote trying to fire the catapult is the funniest thing ever.
-
No way, man - Looney Tunes rocks!
Someone needs to hit you with an anvil.
-
You don't like the Looney Tunes? Blasphemy, I say!!
-
Kara- ":Well if you pay attention you'll notice that he was always upset when he figured out that he'd picked up a ladyboy" :)
"Just because he let Bugs Bunny put on a dress and make up and kiss him does not make him gay."
One, they always act upset (don't you watch Maury?), and TWO that doesn;t stop him from repeating that mistake over and over again... You'd think he'd start checking first before kissing.
The reason that Fudd gets so upset after is cause he's a closet gay:
White, Redneck, NRA, Beer Drinker, and when the Ladyboy rabbit gives him smoochies his pants get tight!
