I don't usually harp about the graphics in games because there are more important things to worry about but I draw the line at cel shading. Cel shading has to be the gayest thing I have ever seen. When I first saw it (in the new Zelda screens in fact) I thought it was gay but it really hit home when I saw shots of the the game series that started all this nonsenese  over at Xbox.com: Jet Set Audio. Out of the three games I seen that use it the only one it really works in is Sheep Dog 'n Wolf but in SDnW the whole point is to drop you into a Warner Brothers cartoon so it can sort of be forgiven.

Those screenshots were not sopposed to be released. Mr. Miyamoto is trying out different game designs. I read in several articles that he assures that this is definately going to be the final version of the game. And if it is, hey graphics don't make the game. Music, gameplay, and storyline are important. Like Chrono Trigger (the greatest game of all time)

Look, I realise that historically Zelda was geared at children but to have that so "in my face" by the use of cel shading just irks me, I don't know why.

of I've seen videos of that new zelda... it's plain ugly imho, I even prefer the old gameboy version...

the best gfx improvment for me? the old gouraud shading  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

Link looks like he did in the first Zelda game (the game is even called "Legend of Zelda").But I want both graphical and gameplay progress.

The graphic seems to be targeded (sp) to a younger audience. But at the same time the graphics look like old adventure games (which I love) like Day of the tentacle and Sam 'n Max.

IGN has more screenshots and a movie. The movie looks like it was a real animated movie. http://cube.ign.com/previews/17012.html ("http://cube.ign.com/previews/17012.html")

You do realize I will have to kill every last one of you for these blasphemous comments, right?

After my initial shock/horror/revulsion, I began to say to myself, hey that actually looks a lot like Link To The Past (my favourite Zelda so far) in 3D! Mint!

Now I look forward to Zelda GC in quivering anticipation.

Also, a question for those 'Nintendo/Zelda is for kiddies' types out there in computer land: how many little chilluns do you know who could see Ocarina or Majora all the way through? And do you really think Shigsy had five year olds in mind when writing in the really surreal bits of Majora? Do small western children appreciate japanese weirdness? Perhaps...

Sorry for my ranting, but you've touched a very sensitive subject here. How may of you knew that Shigsy was quoted as saying that =N= will also be developing another Zelda looking like the original Spaceworld trailer, the so-called 'grown-up' look? Facts, people...

And finally:

GAMECUBE ALL THE WAY, BABY!!!!!!!

[EDIT]Damn... UBB... code... grrr

Hmm, while it's true that gameplay is important... graphics must matter - or else we'd all be playing in wireframe 3D still  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

Bah!  The graphics on the SNES Zelda games were more appealing...and that was back when gameplay meant everything and graphics didn't matter all that much. (mainly because the graphics on the SNES sucked)

Actually the SNES featured the most advanced graphics subsystem of its time. Too bad the crack smoking engineers (obviousy Nintendo haven't laid them all off yet the Game Boy Advance was able to reach shelves without a screen backlight) paired it with a 3Mhz CPU. To get a better idea of what they did think of putting a GeForce 3 into a 486.

I'm not mad, I just hate Mario Kart. The whole thing just screams "play nice kiddies" and that kills the fun. I prefer Wacky Wheels on the PC (the first kart racer I ever played) and Crash Team Racing on the PSX.

gh3y. i liked the legend of Zelda: Ocarnica(or whatever) of time. it had good gameplay and (for N64) pretty good graphics. now i know that gameplay makes or breaks the game, but LOOK AT THAT! IT'S A FRIKKIN CARTOON! and look how happy and bright Link is! it reminds me of bat man from the 60's. all bright and cheary, nothing like the dark creature of the night he was meant to be, buti guess that's what happens in the time of the hippies. all peace and love ect.

but that doesn't even look like Link. it's a disgrace. i trust no one has any objections? *Holds out HLP Hammer of IP banning Justice* didn't think so.

We all seemed to like Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask.  Some of us seem to think that these two games defined the series - that this is the way Zelda was meant to be.  What we are forgetting however, is that those 2 games were the most Un-Zelda games so far.  Both of these games were dark and epic.  Was Zelda 1 epic? Was Link to the Past dark? No!  This new Zelda is returning the franchise to its roots.  It may not have the same looks as the 2 N64 games, but I can gaurantee it will be FUN and CHALLENGING.  I can also gaurantee that the necessary elements of Zelda will still be there.  There will be treasure chests in block mazes, there will be labyrinths, there will be items on cliffs that you have no idea how to get to.

well there you have your answer as to why all N64 games had that dark look about them...  it showed that they had to use low colour depth textures to save space on the miniscule cartridges...

True but considering most of Nintendos first part games are aimed at children it took other companies to make a really fun kart racing game.
