Well, looks like they actually play O-Game, don't know too much about it, but I suppose it couldn't hurt if they were bought together by their love of Freespace :)

Hello Hello.
I am second in command (and co-co-founder) of the Ogame alliance GTVA. I go by the tag Khonsu II (I could only get away with it there ;)) on our alliance forums. We have known of Hard light and the FSO for a while, and I'm afraid I am the one responsible for stealing your awesome artwork and having it posted on our site. (appologies for that, I really should have asked for permisison, if you want us to take down some images just point them out. :D)

We all played Ogame and share a love of freespace, so we formed the alliance, and I believe that one of our main members hosts the alliance page, so you would have to talk to him about hosting. If any of you guys want to join up you would be more than welcome, although it would probably mean playing ogame...

Anyway, good to finally say Hi to you guys!

Hello all,

I started the GTVA alliance in Ogame back when I first joined in Universe 7, about 2 years ago (I can't actually remember exactly when) and since we have restarted in Universe 18, since as a bunch of new guys we didn't start off too well in 7, and it didn't get easier.

Since then, we have been up to almost 50 members, but are now down to about 25. We were ranked inside to top 50 for Overall points, Fleets, and were at one point 3rd for research.

Due to recent member losses we are struggling to maintain our position, and new members are always welcome.

If anyone wants to contact us about anything, you can PM me or Shiku here, or contact us through www.gtva.org

BTW I've already been 'welcome beamed' or at least I've seen it enough times during my trauling.

I used to be a part of this alliance in Uni 18... Then I had to abandon them to move to uni 20, where I was ranked in the top 50. then I eventually quit ogame after being gangbanged daily by the top alliance at the time [GIM].

Title: Re: GTVA.org
Post by: Energiser on September 10, 2006, 07:07:04 am
OK, a few things.

No, no-one in the alliance is Italian (yet), thats just Ben, and the fact that the full words "Missile Simulator" wouldn't fit on the button.

Next, our forum isn't a general freespace discussion forum (a majority of our members have never even heard of Freespace, although we do attempt to presuade them to at least try it). It is first and foremost a forum for the Ogame alliance. We do have a small "General Talk" section, where anything can be discussed, but we will not allow people who have not joined our alliance ingame to access our forums at all. This isn't anything against you guys here, or anyone else interested, but rather is because we have had some security problems with people from other alliances just waltzing in and filching information.

So, if you apply for the forum, but don't also apply ingame, we will not validate your account. Conversely, we don't like players to join us ingame and not join our forums, we do want to be a friendly community, and not joining the forums shows that you're not joining to add to that. Players who don't join our forums will be dismissed after approximately 7 days. Although I'm sure all you guys would jump straight onto the forum I just thought I'd get it out in the open right from the start.

Well, I can see your application on the forum, the moment I get one to join the alliance ingame (must be in Universe 18) you'll be in.

It'll be nice to have an Italian, so far we have Australians, Americans, Canadians, Romanians, English, I think at least one French, a few from the middle east... and those are just the few I can actually remember.

Yeah, I remember the good old days when there were only 7... people still managed to get lost. But who can blame them? 1 in 7 is still rather low odds of guessing correctly, let alone the 1 in... 24 or so that it is now.

Title: Re: GTVA.org
Post by: Nuclear1 on September 10, 2006, 06:56:18 pm
OGame is very slow. It took me several weeks before being able to really do anything of any importance (i.e. attacking other planets). It took at least a month before I could start colonizing other planets.

And I consider the abilities of the other members with the game, much higher than mine(which is 0).

I started playing OGame. It does seem pretty ridiculously slow. Territories 3069 is still my favourite browser-based space game.
Title: Re: GTVA.org
Post by: Energiser on September 11, 2006, 02:42:15 am
It depends on your strategy, and how much time you can put into it, to define whether its slow or not. DarkShivan for example already has his first small cargo, and can begin raiding already. Thats about 3 days and he's started attacking. Or you can be me, I've only attacked 3 times so far in the 6 months or more that I've been in this universe. But my economy is so good that I keep up with everyone else despite not attacking.

I'm approaching the point where I could have 25 interplanetary missiles to go with my fleet of destroyers, battleships, heavy fighters and cruisers. Although my fleet is actually fairly pathetic, its my static defence that deters people from attacking me. The IPM's are just to convince the few who do attack me to go elsewhere.

about a eighteen months ago a few of my friends joined O-Game. They talked nothing of it, and even tried to get me to join. Being the non-conformist I am, I didn't oblige them, but let them keep talking about it. About one month ago, my friends stopped playing it all at once. Yeah, there was a website right there with all of them, wheras, if we wanted all the freespace rank badges I would have to start again from scratch and earn every single one of them. With work and Uni I just don't have the time to do that. Especially when you consider that even when I had nothing to do with my life and just played freespace almost constantly, I only ever got to Commodore...

But he's still right. OGame really is a waste of time, as it demands a nightmarish amount of time devoted to it just to get anything done---basically, you can lost weeks or months worth of devotion to the game in a few seconds when some assholes decide to gangrape you, leaving you to start over from scratch.

Seriously, it's not really worth the time if you've got Real Life to attend to.

Not necessarily true.  I'm quite capable of maintaining a high (top 1000) rank in Ogame even when logging in once or twice a day for about 15-30 minutes.  At the same time, I'm also able to keep up with my college and social life.
If you can't control yourself enough to not play during all of your spare time, then perhaps you should find something else to do. :p

That probably was my problem then; it was a little too slow, plus I could always get much more entertainment out of a two-hour game of Risk with some friends. :)

For people saying that you need to put HEAPS of time into OGame to get anywhere, take me for example. In total I spend about 50 hours at Work and/or University per week, and am only able to log into ogame for about 10 minutes before work in the morning, and at some point during the 4 or 5 hours between when I get home, and when I go to sleep. Yet I have managed to get to about 650th, AND am still climbing slowly. If someone fleet crahsed my entire fleet (about 30 battleships, 40 cruisers, and 150 heavy fighters, it'd take me all of 4 days to completely rebuild it, not that I really would, since I never use it, and currently it just sits around asking for people to attack them and steal the debris.

As I said, the speed depends on how you play, as does the amount of time that you have to put into it in order to be successful.

Also, PLEASE DON'T turn this thread into a flamewar. Back when I used to regularly lurk the HLP forums I swear I didn't see as much of that stuff as I have been seeing over the last few days.

I just built a small cargo now how do i start raiding?

Before you raid I suggest you build some espionage probes, rather than just doing blind hits. Then, once you have them, go to the "Galaxy page", and look at the players there, over to the right hand side of the screen, beside each players name, etc, is a little button, and if you hover the mouse over it, the text "Send Espionage Probes" will appear. Click that button. Once the espionage reports get back (In the messages page) you might be able to info about the person you espionaged, like how many resources they have, their planetary defences, their fleets, their technology levels, etc. If you can't see any of these things, it means that the person is WAY too strong for you at the moment.

If the person has no defence, and no fleet, but some decent resources, remember their planet co-ordinates, and go to the "Fleet" page. Select how many ships you want to send, enter the coordinates you want them to go to, select "Attack" and DON'T PUT ANY RESOURCES IN THEIR CARGO BAYS (this would stop them from capturing anything at the other end, because they would already be full of resources). Now that you have sent the fleet, simply go to the "Overview" page, and it should show you an ETA for arriving at the enemy, and arriving back at your planet.

edit: okay i've built espionage probes but i can't send them anywhere

OK, now just go to the "Galaxy" page, in the right hand column of the table (marked "Actions") there should be 3 or 4 buttons on each line, where each line corresponds to a planet. The left-hand most of these buttons should look like a notepad page, with an eye in the center. Click this and it will send your probes at this planet.

NOTE: You spend 10 deuterium for each galaxy page you view, if you don't have 10 deuterium, you can't view the page. Also, you need deuterium to send ships anywhere, espionage probes don't need much, but they do need some. The amount of deuterium needed to travel somewhere does increase with the distance that the ship has to travel to get there, as does the travel time.

It's good to hear you got that working.

I'd just like to remind everyone that the GTVA (www.GTVA.org) are still looking for new members to join our alliance in Ogame Universe 18 (there's a join script on our website that shows you exactly what to do to join us). We recently lost one of our long-time members due to real-life committments, and would love to get more people from the Freespace community involved in our small community.

Meh, they never replyed back to me, so i started my own alliance. What Uni are you guys in?

Im hooked on Ogame; It's insane, i check all the time.

We're in Universe 18.

Sorry, but who did you try to contact? Recently we've been very strict about people having to apply to join us ingame, as well as to apply for our forum, before we will accept either applications, so that may be the cause of our lack of a reply.

http://www.gtva.org/join.php?ref=energiser

That link will take you to our join script, it will lead you through what universe to join, how to find our alliance within that universe, where to find our forum, amongst a few other things. I hope this makes it a bit easier for anybody else who is interested in joining us.

This could be good.  Is their server stable?  If so, let's find out who their webhost is.  Might be a useful bit of info.  Plus, we can always use more creative juices.

@Dark -- Lol, that's my thread!  I just posted the answer to the code too...

Yes, server certain is stable and we seem to have a surplus of bandwidth. I sent a message to Kalfireth with regards to using it.

To join the GTVA (as seen at gtva.org) you need to play in ogame.org uni 18, which is english. Details for joining were explained in the join script which you obviously breezed over. :)

If you want to be apart of our alliance then you have to register again yes. As explained here:

http://www.gtva.org/join.php?stage=2

Would be best if you read all this and the following pages though so you understand what its all about:

Those are optional extra's that cost money. My is advice is don't use the "officers" because it is like cheating and people will attack you just because you have them.
