I'm on the roll. Just finished another installation - this time a pure military one.

This one has got teeth - big time.
8x3 Terran Heavy Turret, 4 BGreens and 46 smalelr turrets + 4 fighterbays.
All fighterbays are pathed, as well as two dockpoints. Has also glows, LOD's and debris.

Looks good :)
There's still something about the lighting in FS2 that looks 'wrong' to me for some reason. Was that material given a smooth value?

I think it's how the model was smooth shaded. He uses TS, and TS doesnt seperate smoothgroups automatically. You'd have to manually assign each flat surface, or pair of surfaces and then paint them specifically to get hard edges. It would seem that that wasnt done, and thats why every right angle is rounded, in regards to the textures and light castings.

I noticed you have created another installation,the Aeglos.
Are you going to bring the entire JRRT Universe to FreeSpace?
Be advised that I used these names:
Gilraen-Glaurung-Smaug-Gothmog-Ancalagon-Meneldur(this one is a nick I usually use)
And probably many other I don't remember.

Hell, it needs a special debris model so slews of Terrans and Zogs are floating around and bouncing off my hull!

Smoothing is handled rather oddly between truespace and PCS, but it's important to get right or else you can end up with those hard angles being smoothed, which looks hideous. Try using Bobboau's auto-facet build of PCS here: http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,18798.0.html
Also, considering the symmetry present in this model, you really would be better off using a single big UV map. Not only would it allow you to put a lot more detail into the textures, but it would reduce your texture count from 12 to 1.
I'd highly recommend you read through Taylors thread here (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,37158.0.html) for a set of guidelines for building efficient models. It explains all sorts of things - like why you should almost always use DDS textures. ;)

Thanks.. I'll try to re-convert it with the autofacet build. Strangely enough I don't recall having such problem with other models...
@LieutenantGeneralMobius - LOL Don't worry. I usually make up my own names. For instance Nareos should mena (if I got it correctly) Fire Fort:
nar - fire
os(t) - fort
I can check it in a instant. My cousin is one of the greatest experts on Tolkiens languages. B.t.w. - ever translated your name to Quenya?
Mine is Lotion Maradaro (alltough I use Soronarr as last name)
EDIT - on another note, I was planing to put the HLT Athena (or Athena 2) up for download tonihg, but I was feeling bad all day so I havn't finished UV mapping it yet. Since it's not a complete copy, some parts are a bit harder to UV Map. Here's hte curent progress:

P.S. - The HTL Athena mapping is nearly done. Now where are those pilot models?

Toni?Mt third name is Antonio(the same)and in Quenya becomes Loton.
Anthurium is a species of flower and possibly the name Anonio comes from it(there's an Anthurium Prize every summer near the place where I live).
Thanks to this mini-vocabulary,I learned some English words...I knew their meaning only in Quenya and Italian!

Oh, only use it for the cob-pof conversion - use Kaz's latest 1.3.6 to do all importing and editing - especially of glowpoints, since that's the main thing that's been fixed between the two versions.

You need to place it in the PCS directory next to the original exe (it won't overwrite it)...that's assuming you have 1.3.4 or 1.3.6 installed.
and actually the correct version would be Narosto..
