As some of you may know, the stu_fs2.vp file contains 27 voices for a strange multiplayer mission that, as far as I'm aware, does not exist or was never released to the public. I don't have much time for it these days, but I'm thinking it might be fun to try and reconstruct this mission at some point. These files are all Volition made and are canon material, although I would obviously have to extrapolate things a lot to make anything from them. Anyway, the main issue is that there are a few bits of text I can't make out. See if you can do any better than I could. Ux indicates an unknown word or words.
Briefing:
M09_MB_01.wav
Greetings, Terrans. The crew of the GVD Zednanreh welcomes you to our vessel. We were U1 this region of the nebula to retrieve a Terran corvette, the GTCv Steadfast, and its escort. This vessel is the sole survivor of the engagement against a large Shivan battle group.
U1 = summoned?
M09_MB_02.wav
After the battle, we received a brief encoded message indicating an approximate position and direction of movement. U2 avoid attracting the Shivans' attention.
U2 =probably "no further messages have been sent", but there's a missing word after that.
MT09_MB_03.wav
You must find the Steadfast and return it to GTVA space. We will deploy the GVA Suraim (U3) to aid our search. Your task is to protect the Seraim and any Terran survivors. Remember of these priorities during the mission.
MT09_MB_04.wav
Beware of Shivan attacks. The Shivan battle group is still present in this region. Engage and destroy all Shivan vessels you encounter. As you approach the Steadfast, the Shivans' attention may be drawn to it, increasing the danger to its crew. You must find them quickly and remove them to safety.
Debreifing:
M09_DB_01.wav
You were successful in rescuing the Steadfast. You have earned much honor and respect this day. I admit to many doubts about Terrans serving on Vasudan ships. I acknowledge my mistake and welcome your addition to our vessel's strength.
M09_DB_02.wav
In your thirst for battle you neglect your objectives. You have failed. Such failure is not acceptable in a Vasudan, but perhaps Terrans have lower standards for required performance. Leave my presence now.
M09_DB_03.wav
You have...adequately accomplished your objectives. No Vasudan would be proud of this performance, but perhaps Terrans have lower standards. You may return to your rest quarters now.
M09_DB_04.wav
A Vasudan never leaves the field of battle without authorization from a superior officer. Your cowardice jeopardized the lives of our brothers and sisters. You are hereby stripped of your wings and all privileges bestowed upon you as an officer of the Galactic Terran-Vasudan Alliance. You will be taken into custody and handed over to the Terran 3rd Battle Group authority, where you will face a court martial. You are a disgrace to your species, Terran.
M09_DB_05.wav
You were successful in rescuing the Steadfast. You also destroyed the Shivan freighters and protected the Seraim. You have earned much honor and respect this day. I admit to many doubts about Terrans serving on Vasudan ships. I acknowledge my mistake and welcome your addition to our vessel's strength.
In-mission:
M9_AC_01.wav
This mission has failed. Return to base.
M9_Gr_01.wav
Greer here. Moving into docking position.
M9_Gr_02.wav
We've finished rearming the Steadfast and made what repairs we could.
M9_Gr_03.wav
Beginning repairs on the Steadfast. Keep the Shivans off us.
M9_Mi_01.wav
The Millipen will provide cover for the Steadfast. Return to base.
M9_Mi_02.wav
The Millipen has arrived.
M9_Pr_01.wav
Prosaic here. Someone call for a tow?
M9_St_01.wav
Glad to see you. We are severely damaged and require a tow out of here.
M9_St_02.wav
Our engines require major repair work. We need a tow out of here.
M9_Su_01.wav
We note an unknown signal. Adjusting course to investigate.
M9_Su_02.wav
We have found a Shivan gas extractor guarded my Shivan fighters.
M9_Su_03.wav
We detect Shivan bombers on attack vector.
M9_Su_04.wav
We have detected the Steadfast.
M9_Su_05.wav
We are summoning a Terran repair vessel. Alpha and Beta, protect the Steadfast and repair vessel.
M9_Su_06.wav
We will summon a transport.
M9_Ze_01.wav
Alpha and Beta wings, follow the Suraim as it scans for the Steadfast.
M9_Ze_02.wav
Alpha and Beta, engage the Shivans. The Suraim will continue the search for the Terrans.
M9_Ze_03.wav
Our presence is required in another system. The GVD Millipen will be present shortly.
So these are the ships confirmed to be in the mission:
Alpha and Beta wings
GTCv Steadfast (Deimos)
GVD Zednanreh (Hatshepsut, appears in another mission)
GVD Millipen (unknown)
GVA Suraim (Setekh)
GTT Greer (almost certainly a transport, but I don't know what kind)
GTT Prosaic (some kind of transport, Argo is more likely since it's used to tow the Steadfast away)
Rahu gas miner (unnamed)
some Shivan freighters (unnamed, classes or numbers unknown)

Steadfast!
I listened this voices and said "Oh GOd Steady!"but there were no m9 missions except other multiplayer ones.
Steadfast!

Are we sure that :v: didn't tag a few missions in their VP's as hidden? I am not sure that people have seen ALL of the VP's for the game... might be more in there that we didn't know about.
-
No,I'm sure it doesn't exist in a VP.
Rather I bet its DLable from the FreeSpace/Volition site.
-
Volition only ever released one multiplayer mission pack (of their own) and it wasn't in there. I'm almost certain that it is simply unavailable, or I would have ran into it at some point given how long I played FS2 online. I checked the demo vps a few days ago and it's not in there either.

There's no way to "hide" files in vps like that. The viewers for those files are all third party programs anyway.
-
Ah w/e it was a thought...
probably a mission that never made it through beta stages...
ALot of games have stuff that doesn't work in it, though in there incase they fix the problems.
-
Meh, DaveB was probably a bit sozzled that day and forgot to add it..... ;)
-
?
It's impossible....He should add the mission in,I don't know,version 1.2 or the Special Edition.
-
So I guess Terran fleets always get whacked when they meet Shivan fleets?
-
Well this is no suprise considering the fact that there is a mispelled ani file in the original VPs.
-
Ya know, I personally like the Volition Bravo, and how it was added in. You don't know it's there unless you open up the game files (which 98% of people don't do)... a little surprize when someone gives you a mission with a Bravo in it.... I heard theyre horrible to actually control, from the sail.
-
Tis' the lack of wind which hinders said control.... Plus no air in general puts a damper, on high spirits..
-
I don't understand a thing with those th', doin' ecc.!!!!
-
Ya know, I personally like th' Volition Bravo, an' how it were bein' added in. Drink up me hearties, yo ho! Ahoy! Ye don't know it's there unless ye open up th' game files (which 98% o' people don't do).., I'll warrant ye. a little surprize when someone gives ye a mission with a Bravo in it.... I heard theyre horrible t' actually control, from th' sail.
Greetin's, Terrans. Ahoy! The crew o' th' GVD Zednanreh welcomes ye t' our vessel, avast.
This stuff is particularly appropriate. :D
-
Just tried to find these files, but they're not in my .vp file?
-
Are you looking in the right place? I have the retail stu_fs2.vp with the 1.2 patch and they're spread out over the briefing, debriefing and special sections.
It would be nice if someone could make out the few words up there I couldn't catch.
-
Got em, not sure why I couldn't see them before :)
I'll have a listen after tea
-
OK,
U1 : We were summoned to this region of the nebula
U2 : Both of the messages have been sent downwards to prevent attracting... (but that doesn't make sense...)
U3 : Sounds like 'Suraib'. Could possibly be the Vasudan way of saying Syria? But the later in-game tracks are more clear, phonetically it's Syh-ray-m. It sounds like the chap doing the translative english had a cold that day :)
U4 : admit to many doubts
U5 : a hard one, does sound like rest-quarters, could be arrest orders?
U6 : I think it's Millipen ? (No R)
U7 : Definitely "We have found a Shivan gas extractor guarded my Shivan fighters"
HTH
-
*cough gaurded BY shivan fighters cough* :nervous:
-
I'm positive it's:
U2 = "No further messages have been sent *UNKNOWN* to avoid attracting Shivan attention." (I've got absolutely no idea what he says there, and while "so as" would make the most sense, it sounds like there's a "t" in there somewhere.)
U4 = "I admit to many doubts..."
U7 = "We have found a Shivan Gas-extractor..."
-
As I can see,the mission is full of grammar errors....
Which means that someone who doesn't speak English made it,right?
Oh,there's the GTCv Steadfast....uhm...
-
Excellent, that's a lot better than I could do. "Rest quarters" makes some sense for U5. I'm not sure about U1 though; "were summoned to" makes sense but I can't hear any "to" in there at all. That and U2 are for the most part all that's left. I'll update the original post.
-
In the first briefing, it sounds like "we have come to".
In U2, I got "no further messages have been sent, doubtless to avoid attracting the Shivan's attention."
In the second debriefing, it's "neglected", not "neglect".
