Hey Peeps,
Another Newbie Question here!
I've been working on a set of mission (campaign) based on the NTF & GTVA War that was only lightly touched on during FS2 ...
Now im working on one mission but im unable to test it. Every time i load into the mission i get.
----
Error: Distance of 0 is invalid in mission_set_arrival_location
File:C:\projects\freespace2\code\Mission\MissionParse.cpp
Line: 4122
Call stack:
------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------
Now this is the first time i've seen this error, and whilst a new guy, im on my 3rd mission now ... I'm going over this mission and previous to see what maybe the problem, but if anyone with more experience than me (almost everyone here) knows the answer i would be very grateful for a clue as to where to solve the problem :)
If you need to view the mission let me know i can always send it.
Sorry if this is a dumb post - But its driving me mad
Tired

In an arrival cue, set the distance to 20..........
-
Sorted it thanks :)
Was an error in judgement about ship undocking from the station it appears (Reinforcement wing).
Greatful for the pointer you gave, even more grateful for the lack of "nooooooob" attached to the end we used to give some of the modders in the TA game =)
Anyway, onto my next mission .... figureing out why Orions have big Beam cannons but despite being set to FFA fire, never actually fire the damn things!
[I've done the Event beam adjustment too :( ]

In mission specs editor (**** + N) tick beams freed by default. Or add an event doing it.
TIP Do the walkthrough first (freddocs folder)
TA, you mean the epic arm/core struggle for galactic domination? I've done a few kbots in my time :D
[mod-wise you sick puppies]
:welcome:

How the smeg did that happen, I meant SHIFT.........
-
Yep - Total Annihilation. Was a great game still is ... community seems a little inactive but you can still find us modders & the Gnugs :D
Just finished the tutorial walk through actually .... mission went suprisingly well .... untill i start messing with ship weapons in fred :)
Thanks for the second hint, I assume you are using FRED_Open, I'm still on retail.... Fred ... *sounds oddly perverse*
Anyway nows the good a time as any to upgrade my FS2 and Fred ... especially if it gets this damn ship firing.
Thanks for all the hints and links every *PM madness*
Anyway upgrade time!

I know FRED retail backwards, Glad its all sorted, I reccomend th eOPEN upgrade, though as it takes a lot of work out getting beamz to beam stuff.......
-
If you have a ship that won't fire its beams after it's been beam-freed correctly then it's likely to be a problem of beam arcs. Although the Orion is the ship I'd expect to be be least likely to fail cause of that.
How did you make the beam-free event? Remember that it has to be used on a ship already present in the mission. Beam-free will have no effect on ship that isn't present yet.
-
The beam-free-all event is one of the first events i made (along with others to keep the events tidy), the Orion doesnt arive till mid mission ...
I'll add a time delay to the orion beam event so it happens after the orion warps in and see if that solves the problem.
Unfortunatly the original Fred2 (retail). Doesn't have a Default beam on option, so if this works i owe you =)
Thanks for the continued input, and newbie guiding. The tutorial rocks in helping you make one mission, but you need to make a few and loads of mistakes to really learn FRED!

BTW Mouse, i thought you were ok'ish in the Matrix...........

I'd advise you to take a good long look through the FRED section of my FAQ. That should cut down on some of the errors and teach you a few new tricks. Pay special attention the the common mistakes section. :)
-
it could also be a good choice to join the Fred Academy. You can learn a few thing there, too. :)
-
...or the Karajorma's FreeSpace...Fan Club!!!
mouse:I like a lot TA:K,the sequel.I have DLed many, many mods and still play it even if it's old.It has the same age of FS2,I think.

I made sure the FAQ pimps the Academy so I don't have to :)
-
The Academy and the FAQ are two saparate things....
-
Obviously. But the idea is for the FAQ to point new people at the Academy. That way I only need to point people at the FAQ :)
-
The FAQ provides infos. The Academy is something different.I don't know where to base the Fan Club.
-
I'll check up on the Academy once I'm sure I know the basics of fred ..... I dont want to be expelled :)
Thanks for the updates, I manage to solve a,ll the problems I encountered, now I just need to think of the final parts to my tester campaign so I can fiddle with that part =)
-
The only requirement for the Academy is that you've done the walkthrough. We'll take on anyone who has passed that stage.
The idea is to trap out the errors and teach good FREDding skills as early as possible. They're more likely to stick at that point :)
-
Oh sweet, then i may lurk by, once my new work shedule is released, and i know when im working.
The only downside to my job is that I travel ... but at odd hours and it changes alot :)
At the moment im just toying with FRED, and trying to make a string of missions based on the NTF during FS2 .... whilst FS2 did do a few missions based on Epsilon, it only mention the two prong attack on Sirrius fails ... so im doing some missions based around those lines :)
Still yours FAQ rocks :)
