Title: Ghost Squadron
Post by: FOX2PRO on September 15, 2006, 06:25:02 pm
In the Mission,"Game of Tag", whenever I get close to the end, a mysterious squadron, shows up on Objectives, which refuses to go away. After I destroy the last wing of Leo's (Manticores),, these guy's, Virgo, show up. I can never find them, and no matter what I do, that glitch refuses to go away. I am using cheats to protect Lucidity, myself, and the Warspite...but that can't cause this?

The fact that you're playing on what is now the wrong build :p

Get yourself 3.6.9 RC 7 from the recent builds forum. The problem was fixed months ago.

Obvious question, but did you change the start file in the launcher?

I don't know what your talking about...so that might be it.

Ahhh.. When you run the Launcher program, at the top it lets you select which executable file you want to run, it sounds like it's still set to the older build. I wish I had the stuff installed so I could do screenshots to show you what I mean.

All right, I set it so that it looks like this (http://img201.imageshack.us/img201/5448/fs2opensq7.jpg)

Now I can't even play the mission...I get lag. I've turned down every GFX option I can find to near 0, but it won't work...

That picture isn't big enough to show the difference between an Elephant and a Hippo 640X480 at least please. Give us your flags too.

Flags? Sry, I'm new at this....

go to the features tab of the launcher and copy everything in the first box ( the read-only, non-white one) and paste it here.

And while you're at it, if you could give us the specs for your computer

C:\Games\FreeSpace2\fs2_open_3_6_9.exe -spec -glow -jpgtga -mipmap -missile_lighting -dualscanlines -targetinfo -rearm_timer -ballistic_gauge -3dwarp -warp_flash -snd_preload

And my PC is:

ATi Radeon 9800PRO
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ s754
1GB RAM

first of all, having "-spec -glow -jpgtga -mipmap -missile_lighting -3dwarp" doesn't count as having graphics turned down. not even close. just a thought, try turning off all of the above, and make sure that you aren't using the media vps. using adv_effects with spec and glow on almost any machine causes slowdown. I'm not familiar with AMD's naming scheme (post chip speed please?), but your graphics cards is easily good enough to run the games with the options you've selected..... provided that you're not using adv_effects...

Chip Speed is 2.2Ghz, but its the equvalent of an old 3.2 Intel.

3200+ is a fairly good chip, I can run FS2_o with mediavps on it just fine with an X1300

I changed it all. Bare settings.
Flags: C:\Games\FreeSpace2\fs2_open_3_6_9.exe -targetinfo -snd_preload

Still lags, but it takes longer to start.

Are you using OGL or D3D?

I was using D3D...

I'll try with OGL.

And my PC is:

ATi Radeon 9800PRO
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ s754
1GB RAM

I'm surprised you are having problems. Thats at least twice the power my system has and I have no problems, unless I run mv_adveffects.vp with the glowmaps and new explosions.

My PC is:

AMD Athlon XP 2000+
512 RAM
Nvidia GeForce FX 5700 LE
40 GB Hard Drive

In a month or two I am going to get a new system, even if I still can't get a broadband connection. I'll at least have a new PC for when I can get it back. I already picked out my new system.

Tell me you're building it yourself.
Title: Re: Ghost Squadron

No I'm not building it myself. I don't think I have the funds or brains to build it myself. It is a custom built system though.

Funds -- it's usually cheaper to do it yourself

Brains -- you know it's "righty tighty, lefty lucy," right?

Sigh... oh well.

the fewer people who make their own systems, merely serve to make us look more intelligent by comparison.

the same can not be said for laptops. you'd have to be crazy to make your own laptop, unless you got one of those OLD laptop cases... the ones that looked more like suitcases than laptops...

, my system is very similar to this one. Only my GFX card is in the PCI slot. But mine's got its own slew of problems... bangwal

I see a problem with those specs, Ace. You're using a Geforce 5 series card. That was one of nVidia's recent missteps. The 5 series cards didn't support hardware DDirectX9 D3D calls, and they weren't  so great with OGL either. Try at least a Geforce 6 series.
