Captain'o'th'Black. Err..
So...anyone remember that scene in Indiana Jones. Its the funniest gun vs sword moment ever and in the runnings for funniest gunplay moment period (tied with the first episode of Firefly where Mal shoots the fed).
-
Yeah... I have far more confidence in a gun then a sword... mostly from that scene, and logic
-
slived a bullet in half with no trouble
'Course, that just means you're hit twice.
-
You mean this clip?

-
Yeah, that's the one :D
-
Yep!
-
slived a bullet in half with no trouble
'Course, that just means you're hit twice.
And even if it didn't it means that your sword now has a large dent in the edge.

I'm not too sure. lead isn't really that hard a metal.

Looking at the sword afterward with the first shot, it looks like it's hardly lost any edge at all, the steel has whitened from the heat slightly, but those swords are easily tempered enough to keep an edge after that.
What I found interesting was, on the second one, you can see what looks like the shadow of the rifling on the wall behind the sword ;) Also, I know it would be impossible to target, bu I wonder how the sword would have fared at something other than point blank against that gun, it was constantly being hit in the same spot on the blade.

Van Helsing : Journey to Transylvania. I downloaded the soundtrack just for that song :)

Yep. I spotted that rather major drawback right at the start. Unless you can hit the bullet dead centre the majority of the bullet is barely deflected and hits whatever is directly behind the sword. i.e the swordsman.
Nonetheless, very cool

Lead is soft enough to be cut by the hardened steel of the katana. I'd like to see the same expriment with a high-powered full metal jacket bullet from an assault rifle ;7
-
It was jacketed ammo, the last lead rounds for the M2 Browning were used up during Korea. That leaves incendiary, armor piercing, and tracer. It's obviously not incendiary or tracer. Damascus steel is pretty tough.
But you'll notice that the sword actually only stood up to two or three hits, too; it snapped pretty quick.
-
It snapped on the 7th hit from the look of it. I doubt that there are many things that size that would stand up to that kind of attack for longer.

Let's see that Katana stand up to this guy!

Actually the real problem is that, since the bullets will disperse radially under any circumstances, you could posistion the sword to intercept the first, and if you were lucky it might catch the second too, but the odds of the third getting sliced too are extremely low.
