Title: Borat causes International Incident
Post by: Mefustae on September 21, 2006, 09:08:19 am
Well, almost (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=404852&in_page_id=1770).

Quote from: Article
Baron Cohen responded to Ashykbayev in character by posting a video on the Official Borat website.

In the video, Borat said, "In response to Mr. Ashykbayev's comments, I'd like to state I have no connection with Mr. Cohen and fully support my Government's decision to sue this Jew.

Since the 2003 Tuleyakiv reforms, Kazakhstan is as civilized as any other country in the world.

Women can now travel on inside of bus, homosexuals no longer have to wear blue hats, and age of consent has been raised to eight years old."
High-larious.

An american making fun of other countires. :doubt:

I can understand people got upset. And Kazakhstan is a small country with very little international influence and credibility, so I can also understand how this might mean a lot to them.
However involving goverments and presidents seems like over reacting IMO.

He's from Britain, which, if my Geography is correct, is geographically smaller than Kazakhstan :D It's his style, you should hear what he says about the British ;)

What? First off, couldn't care less about the guy. He's a dumbass, and I usually don't enjoy watching dumbasses. But what the **** has Bush got to do with the story? On a second thought, never mind. Bush is another dumbass and I don't care.

IMO you're right on all counts. People take the piss out of a America and Britain the whole time, but since they're so often in the public eye it's hard for people to get 'the wrong idea'.
Not only that, most of the piss that gets taken from these two Western countries is extremely accurate piss...

Really, and which of this piss is accurate?

You may find, just as we did that a lot of your assumptions about us are exactly that ;)

Canadians have a fine tradition of making plenty of fun of ourselves.  Maybe we're used to it but when other folks take a jab at it...we take that jab and run with it!  Heck, if you can make fun of our country then we can do a FAR better job :D

More countries need some humility.  Be proud of your country but show how proud you are by making a little fun of it.

If you look at it objectively, Dubya gets good publicity in a remote area of the world for a token involvement. Quite clever of him IMHO (something I'll rarely say of Bush).

It shows what a backward country Kazakhstan is though, rather proving Borat's point... it'd be like Afghanistan taking offense at its South Park depiction, or the British government raising hell about the U-571 film.

If people wanna have a go at things that aren't being realistic or sensible then, They should slate every quality game ever made.

Baron sacha Cohen is an oxford/cambridge graduate (i forget which) so he cant be a dumbass either.

Just because you graduate doesn't mean you're not a dumbass. Case in point; Bush graduated from Yale. :p

Nonetheless, I would agree that Cohen most certainly is not a 'dumbass'.
