Title: A couple more ships
Post by: Scooby_Doo on September 27, 2006, 04:33:48 am
A couple more ships on the long production line to go. I need to make clones of myself

Lets see how many remember this ship?  :p (albiet modified)

And just for you Colonol Dekker  :D
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v356/Shodan_AI/midway1.jpg)

Both are still in their infancy.

That midway clone is really nice. It design looks much more reasonable to me than the original (which was a joke actually. A completly empty ships body just to build in a crane that moves the fighter to the catapult tupe. Blair must have been drunken when he designed that :D )

The launch tubes were way too small. You couldn't even launch a devestator in one of those.  Plus there was that stupid tail. don't know what it was for but it was barely attached to the ship.

Now the body sections have been welded together (plus more fighter storage space  :D ) and the tail section has been merged with the rest of the tower section and body.  She'll be armed with medium to light anti-capship (mostly for self protection) and lots of tachyon/laser/particle guns (well less than 34 turrets total  :doubt: LOL)

Well, just make your weapons more like the ones in WCS, and you know how dangerous they are there. :) That way 30 turrets should be more than enough.

Post by: Scooby_Doo on September 27, 2006, 03:54:33 pm
Actually I think their worse or were worse :eek2:

Since most weapons have dual barrel, twice the damage. I had to lower damage some and use the FOV.  It also makes things more interesting watching shots flying past you.

Edit: Don't forget theres much more area to protect.  Since I base everything on the scale of a fighter, cap ships need to be much much bigger to support them. Hence my 1km+ scaled cruisers/carriers

Bugger what you people say, the Midway was a fantastic looking capital ship. The way it hung in space all vast and menacing was just damn cool.

I want to see a FS ship that hangs in space in exactly the way that bricks don't.

Take note "(albiet modified)"  :D

It went from a slow sluggish heavly armored medium figheter with 2 mass drivers to a slow slugghish heavly armored heavy fighter with a weapons loadout comperable to the thunderbolt.

Title: Re: A couple more ships
Post by: gevatter Lars on October 02, 2006, 04:24:29 am
I think I haven't seen it before but when its a WC ship I would say...something WC2...beginning with W.
If its that ship I would say interesting...maybe the rest of the WC2 bubbles could be WC3ifyed similar to this.
It also looks a little bit more like from the movie..at least the bridge section.
Title: Re: A couple more ships
Post by: Scooby_Doo on October 02, 2006, 04:47:22 am
The underbelly still is rounded, except theres a modern plasma equivalent of the PTC located there  ;)

I'm finally getting around to working on it. This is as much detailing as I've got right now. Also there is something really goofy with 3dMax about smoothing.  I get really weird black banding on areas.. specially the rounded underside and the front bridge tower.

For some reason, when I see that ship, I hear "Yellow Submarine" by the Beatles, in my mind.

Title: Re: A couple more ships
Post by: Scooby_Doo on October 03, 2006, 06:18:18 am
Well if it's not blocky it's not part of wc3/4  :p

I have most of the ship there, in large number of big blah boxes, I'm booleaning and cutting them together, then detailing them, piece by piece.

top view
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v356/Shodan_AI/wship4.jpg)
think of the metal plating as sort of a "haven't gotten beyond this point really"

Extra hints:
btw, the side angled braces \__that form the \__== are new, their suppose to act as additional bracing. (if that gives any clues)
what you think is the bridge isn't the bridge;)

The only thing that's making any sense to me at all is the Concordia, and I know it isn't.

I still need to convert the ferret mk2 over to cob.. and now the Galaxy heavy bomber is ready to be painted...

Who wants to paint this for me?.............................................................. ..........................I didn't think so
It's 50meters long (isn't this one of the biggest bombers around including inferno?)
I thought the devestator was 50m so i based this off that scale... unforunatelly the devestator seems to be only 36m.  Maybe a gunship armed with torps?

For most of it I like the new Waterloo design.
Some changes I would suggest is removing the lower outer fins so that you have just two pairs of fins.
Also somehow this reminds me of a klingon/romulan vessel with the PTC under it. Maybe you could change the design of it a little. While the rest of the ship is quite blocky the PTC is quite round. Maybe you could try a more "technical" style on it. Means make it a little bit more blocky and add some of the structurs you have on the upper part to "hold" the PTC.
I would also suggest to make the upper fins a little bit sleeker and give the hangar for the fighters their "cover" as the old version had it...I allways found that a good part of it.

Agreed on the front rounded area.... besides 3dsmax doesn't seem to want to shine it correctly. The wings come right off my Aurora cruiser.

How about a Sartha?
Too much smoothing, especially on the hull

I really like the new waterloo design (except for the upper bridgepart that is). With a few more greeblings I would say you managed to WC3ish one of those awful WC2 designs :)

Awful WC2...................:jaw:

How dare you, The concordia is a work of art...................Waterloo looks perfect, and as for the submarine of mystery i have no clue what its based off.. :hopping:
Title: Re: A couple more ships
Post by: gevatter Lars on October 09, 2006, 12:50:18 pm
I also don't like the bloober look of WC2. It dosn't fit so well to the rest of the ships. WC2 designs where like someone invented the sphere and everyone had to use it on every ship.
Confedships are mostly ok, but the Kilrathis where all very round and that dosn't fit to the Kilarthi as I think of them...or their ship design.
Title: Re: A couple more ships
Post by: Colonol Dekker on October 10, 2006, 05:53:32 am
WC3 Kilrathi are the best in every way, but give WC1-2 era ships wc3/4 textures and they look great as Scoob has shown.
Title: Re: A couple more ships
Post by: gevatter Lars on October 10, 2006, 08:02:28 am
That might be true for the Confed ships of WC2 but the Kilrathis are just to round. The Waterloo as Scooby has build it is quite close to what I would imagne the ship when it was used in WC3...well with less details since the WC3 engine insnt that powerfull.
Title: Re: A couple more ships
Post by: Colonol Dekker on October 10, 2006, 08:05:12 am
I concur most definately, as above the WC3/4 Cats are how cats should be, But WC2 ships are more human than giant space lego IMO. Although the Victory and Behemoth are teh secks.

*cough* scuse the noobism........

Heres some more stuff that will eventually get done

Liberty pocket carrier (was a p2 destroyer/cruiser)

Raksa'Darg heavy destroyer
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v356/Shodan_AI/raksadarg1.jpg)

Karenen  (p2 karenen) rechristened as a bomber
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v356/Shodan_AI/karnenen1.jpg)

Enterprise fleet carrier  (Axem's triton model part) (UV'ed and ready to be painted)

I've finally got Lar's Gladius uv mapped.
I still need to release Lar's Ra'toth model, I think it's ready to go, just let me double check.

I like the Liberty and Enterprise carriers. Both look quite good and will most likely look eveen better when textured.
As for the Gladi...it seams as if two of the 4 inner gunbarrels are missing. Overall their should be 6 gun barrels.

*cough* scuse the noobism........

One thing I didn't like abuot the wc3+ cat fighters is that they have sharp points but are too low poly and jagged rather than curved.. unlike a real cats claw.

Btw is the victory class the same as the ranger class? (the tincan carriers)

Also does the forward section look a bit better now?

@Scooby
I don't know about the flythroughbay. Maybe haveing just one single bay at the back that is connected with the sides could be interesting.

Well right now the fighters are lifted up to the flight deck.. kinda like modern ACs.  theres three lift platform areas on each side (this will just be textures)

Thats what i said

Flythrough Victory style hangars are great, I like the idea of a space-runway you can walk around on without space suits. The old WC1 funerals sucked.........

The Nimitz Scoob made is a great example of how ships should be made.

The midway is much harder to give details to, too much flat surfaces that need to stay flat.
