S3 graphics. Firstly, see if you can update your video card drivers. Perhaps its using outdated OGL drivers. Secondly, there is no guarentee D3D will work at all, as its not supported currently.

NO, YOU IDIOT! USE THE BIG BEAM CANNON!
FIRE!
:welcome:

Welcome to HLP! Exits are to the right and left. In the event of a landing of any kind, you can and will be used as a flotation device. Flamethrowers are conviniently located under your seats, however, due to the recent funding cuts, a $3.5 million donation is required to obtain a flamethrower with a full load of napalm in it. If you do not wish to make a donation, your flamethrower will remain filled with water. If you don't wish to donate and still want a working weapon, you'd have to try the weapons locker. However, only HLP Admins, a :V: God, or a Hyperintelligent shade of Blue can open the lock, so you'd have to break in. If you find yourself inside a ventilation shaft and you catch a glimpse of a Shivan, you don't need to worry... much. It's just Carl, and you have two choices with how you want to deal with him:
    1. The first possible course of action is getting one of the weapons from the afore-mentioned weapons locker, and trying to ward off Carl by threatening him with the weapon. Be advised that many of the weapons in the weapons locker are covered with the blood of people who thought it a good idea to break into the weapons locker and use the procured weapon to ward off Carl. So, please, if you decide you want to choose this course of action, choose one of the already-bloody weapons, so you don't get blood all over one of the clean ones.
   2. Your second course of action when you see Carl is to throw your lunch to him and hope he isn't hungry. This is the better option.
As a final note, please remember that any attempt to use the ASCII characters 0046h, 0053h, and 0033h in sequential order will result in you being trampled by Freespace Fanboys. Your trampled remains will be fed to Carl so that the rest of us don't have to carry around so much food for lunch.

They already mentioned about D3D, it's not supported and should not be used.  Did you check turey's list?  It's still up and current I believe.  I'm not familiar with the exact problem you're having, but if you can verify you set everything up properly it would speed up the process.

No S3 chipset is supported, so that's your problem right there.  There is no fix for it either, that chipset simply can't handle even the basic engine features.

You might try a opengl to direct3d wrapper, since FS's native d3d is bad, and opengl won't work on your card, finding a driver to convert opengl calls to direct3d for your card is probably the only option.  The only one I can turn up after short searching is SciTech's GLDirect, but I can't determine if there's a free version available that would be new enough to be of any use.

Actually it's not. I've been meaning to get around to fixing it, but other things keep popping up...

My bad.  Was moot to his problem anyway.  But a wrapper might work, I found a 5.0.3 copy of GLDirect if you have a hard time getting it anywhere, so let me know if you think it's worth messing with.

Sorry about hijacking the thread but I can't seem to get SCP working as well.

I used Turey's installer, OpenAL is installed, but I get this error message after crashing from the splash screen

(http://img181.imageshack.us/img181/9972/freespacete5.th.jpg) (http://img181.imageshack.us/my.php?image=freespacete5.jpg)

Any help would be appreciated.

I don't know much about that, but I do see that Turey's installer is still getting Launcher 5.5a if you just did this recently, instead of the newer 5.5b.

What VPs do you have in your FreeSpace2 and mediavps folders? I need names and sizes.

Erm, isn't BtRL a standalone (TC)?

Do not install BTRL into the same directory where you have FreeSpace2. They are not meant to be in the same directory and having them placed will cause problems. So install BTRL into a separate directory.
