Title: Game keeps freezing during combat
Post by: Paktu on October 03, 2006, 11:48:25 pm
I'm using the SCP pack v1.5c with all settings turned on in the Easy Setup thing in the launcher.  During combat, the game will randomly decide to freeze for no apparent reason.  The only way to get out is ctrl-alt-del, and sometimes that won't even work and I have to actually do a reset.  I'm using an ATI Radeon X800XT Platinum Edition with Catalyst 6.9 drivers.  I do not have any problems with freezes in any other games.  Any ideas what I can try to fix this?

Well, when i had a radeon, my game would only freeze if i was in directx. Possibly that's not your problem, but if it is...sure easy to fix ;)

Upgrade the pack from 1.5. The latest version of the pack uses much newer code which hopefully has eliminated whatever problem is killing it for you.

In the meantime if you look at the options in the launcher you'll notice that there is a developer feature allowing you to run FS2 in a window. If you do that you should always be able to kill it without a reset.

I had some issues with directX as well. Changed to openGL and it's been fine so far.

DirectX support is limited at best at the moment, that may hopefully change in the future, but at the moment, I believe that the best performance is OpenGL. If I'm wrong about that, I'm sure Bobboau will set matters straight ;)

:welcome:
<insert speech here>

Upgrade your SCP to the latest version, use OpenGL... that's all I can recommend.

If you got problems... we need more info like amount of RAM, OS, CPU, and the other list of junk... good luck!
