Title: Think I have a problem....
Post by: Scooby_Doo on October 05, 2006, 05:15:38 pm
If you've been reading some of my messages I've been having troubles with engine glows not appearing.
Double checked the pof files (engine normals are (0,0,-1), scale: 20).

I went to put all my capships in a row plus an orion. NONE of them had engine glows, including the orion.  Ok I really messed something up..
I removed everything possible (tbm, tbl).  Still nothing..  (although my ajax needs to be fixed badly, but thats another story)

One last thing... I decided to switch back to DirectX mode... VOLA engine glow reappeared.

Is this a known issue with opengl, using fs2_open_3_6_9.exe?

What graphics files for the engine glow are you using?
Do they happen to have an alpha channel?

Using Freespace2  original graphics... only MV vp files currently used are mv_core and mv_music.  mv_effects isn't used (too intensive)

Ok the Mekhu did show up.  Also i removed the my mod from the mod list and the engine glow appears to show up.... UGH Now it seems my mod has a problem in opengl but not directx  :sigh:

Strange thing is I haven't touched the engine glow effects yet.

*EDIT*

::)  Yes, well you see, my problem was much simpler. When you have as many versions of the mv_ packs stored as I do, it does not help when you mix up verions heh....

Hey Scooby, well I did a little testing and i can't say if our problem are fully related, since you said you we not using mv_effects.

mv_effects was the source of the issues I had before (only the mekhu glow showing up, and no engline glows), so I'll have to look through the artwork again, as the mv_  patch series don't fix these problems for me.

Anyways, I have to do more testing and go through mv_effects before reporting anything more.

It would be highly speculative of me to say it works in D3D and not OGL, since, at this time, D3D apparently needs a lot of work to function 'correctly'.

Cheers!
