Title: Slowdown when firing primary weapon

I don't know why, but when I fire my primary weapon, the game slows down to a crawl.  After a few seconds, it resumes at normal speed.  I think it has something to do with the primary weapon lasers.  When the laser leaves my ship, it slows down the game, but once the laser beams go into the void of space and disappear, the game speeds up again.  I've tried removing the adv_effects mediaVP, but it has no effect.  What is going on here?  Can someone help me?


P.S: I'm also experiencing "black shields" when fired onto an enemy or onto me.  How can I fix this?

Thanks a lot, Tyrian!  Not only did you solve my black shields problem, but also the primary weapon issue.  I have no more slowdowns! Sweet! :D

(Would've replied earlier, but the forums were acting up  :) )
