Title: Odd movie playback glitch
Post by: Tempest on October 07, 2006, 12:52:11 am
Hi everyone, I just wanted to let y'all know of a little anomaly. When Freespace plays back movies, it creates a box to the upper left of the main movie window. The movie is played in the center of the screen fine, but the box is seen in the backround and it looks funky. As seen in the attached image, there are 2 boxes created with the same dimensions, just different top and left coordiantes. I'm really not sure what caused this. This happens in multiple different versions of the game, with and without the flags. I'm running freespace in OpenGL, and remember not having the movie playback issues. Again, it doesn't affect gameplay, there's just an almost black box behind the movie(I can still view the movie fine). Its position changes from time to time from being barley noticible to covering the whole top left of the screen. Thanks!

Are you playing MVE or AVI movies? Cause they use completely different code so it's rather important.

.AVI.

It has something to do with the DivX 5 codec. I believe downgrading to a DivX 4 codec solves it. (although I haven't exactly had problems lately, i play the FS1 videos on SCP) What build are you using?

I mantised this problem quite time ago (Mantis 624 (http://scp.indiegames.us/mantis/bug_view_advanced_page.php?bug_id=0000624)).

Now I've got FFDSHOW and I see it. But with DivX codecs I also saw it.

It only seems to happen with avi playback, not with mve player.

Version 3.6.9.

It has to do with the DivX5 codec? Hmm...well, hopefully it will be solved when DivX6 comes out...or some sort of patch...

Bugs in the avi player are not that likely to get fixed unless they are rather minor seeing as how we're ripping out the entire avi playing code anyway.

*cue 8-10 post discussion about why we should keep avi instead of Theora*

There, now we can implement Theora. :D

WMCoolmon actually basically posted what the Theora\Avi discussions tend to look like. Simply do a search on the word Theora and you'll find at least a couple.
