Hey guys, I rember seeing some nice thruster effects, that added trail like things to the thrusters. I REALLY liked the effect but have been unable to find them anywhere. Does anyone know where I can find them? I've seen screenshots of them, and to whoever made them, you're a thruster genius!

I think thruster trails are only visible in missions fought inside a nebula, if that's what you mean. :nervous:
-
You can turn them on in non-nebula missions using FRED but if you're playing the standard FS2 missions HT is correct. You'll only ever see them in the nebula.
-
Not the thruster trails that shipped with retail FS2. I've played using them in Port, for instance (mission 5- I remember the Plato having the cool thrusters). These are not white trails, rather extensions of the thruster itself.. I can't find a screenie of what it is, but I know it exists (I played using them!) I KNOW It's SCP visual effects, I just can't find 'em.
-
it'd be a lot easier to help you if you posted a screenie of what you're talking about.

Are you sure you're not speaking about some thruster effect that was in some earlier Media VP releases and has perhaps since been replaced with new ones? It's kinda difficult to determine what is meant by "trail like thing".
The thruster effects that I have look like these (on Terran craft anyway):
(http://users.tkk.fi/~lmiettun/Kuvat/FS2_Open/screenshots/GTF_Erinyes_cockpit_2_small.jpg) (http://users.tkk.fi/~lmiettun/Kuvat/FS2_Open/screenshots/GTF_Erinyes_cockpit_2.jpg)
They are also visible in this picture here (and I think this one is actually a better one as a picture than the previous one):
(http://users.tkk.fi/~lmiettun/Kuvat/FS2_Open/screenshots/GTF_Erinyes_cockpit_3_small.jpg) (http://users.tkk.fi/~lmiettun/Kuvat/FS2_Open/screenshots/GTF_Erinyes_cockpit_3.jpg)
Certainly there is a "trail like thing" behind the thrusters, but it's more like a conical cloud than an actual trail, at least in current effects. :D
[I couldn't bother to actually take new screenshots, but these should do their work...]
So. Are the thruster effects you see like these here?
-If they are, then you are just missing some specific effect that I've not heard of nor seen them.
-If you are not seeing this kind of thrusters, then you are not using the latest Media VP's OR something's set up wrong on your FS2 folder.
What build are you using?
What MediaVP's are you using?

I apologise for being so vague. It's REALLY hard for me to describe...and I can't find any screenies, although the ones provided are good.
HOWEVER, that is the effect. I'm using the 3.6.9 build and the 3.6.8 ZETA vp's. I got the "thruster cones" ONCE and it was a while back and by the time I realized the effect was gone I had changed too many things. Anyone know where exactly the effect is located and what vps it uses? (I do NOT see that in my current version of the game.)
I feel so dumb...I redownloaded the media vps and I saw the effect immidiatley. gah! Thank you guys for trying to help me! (goes to shoot more shivans)

I've never seen the thruster trails mentioned in this thread.
I did have some newer effects previously but have since lost them somehow and anything above fighter class no longer displays any thruster effects.
I suspect it happened when I downloaded a patch that was supposed to introduce a new thruster effect for Vasudan and Shivan fighters or one or the other.
I've noticed a difference with the Shivan engines I think but nothing dramatic while I've lost cruiser effects altogether.

I think I know what he's talking about. He's refering to the customiseable thruster trails for afterburners.
I thought they could be set for the normal engines too, but according to the Wiki, the only options are thruster particle trails...
-
You could perhaps add contrails to thrusterpoints and then set it in mission spec editor to use contrails even in normal missions...

This trails are defined in a tabular ship table (mv_trails-shp.tbm) inside mv_effects.vp
