Will someone please explain how I can get these missions?

I made 2 of them...they weren't that good :)
-
I remember one pretty good one where it was a battle in orbit above a massive gas giant, and it was against a Rakshasa, and there was some "beam-inhibitor" device (a la Derelict). Was pretty well done.

Considering it was some sort of mission-building contest... what did that make your competition? :p
-
Much worse :)
There was maybe one or two missions in the whole lot that I liked. I forget which ones they were. Mine were maybe number 3 and 4 for how much I liked playing them. And I didn't think of mine as being that good. The mission that won the contest was absolutely horrible to play.

so why did it win the contest?? and who made it. and why is interplay using moder to do theyr job? Sure it a way to get the stuff the memebers of HLP enjoy over here to the masses and draw some atention to the HLP and its mission but stilll......its kinda lame for interplay to do this. At least that is mi opinion.

It's profitable for Interplay to do it. It's just that simple.

There was one in there that was from Derelict, I recall...it was better then the version in the actual campaign.

Why it won the contest? I'm not sure...it was absolutely boring mission to play and completely lacking in any fun. The other half dozen were uninspired or suffered from "Battle of Endor" syndrom (i.e. really really big battles). Some were plain bad...they had no concept of the FreeSpace story so they suffered.
I got a free copy of the game out of it...so...not too shabby.

Wait a minute.
How was a copy of FS2 a plus if you already had FRED (unless you wrote the mission in Notepad...)? :confused:

Shhh... it's all about the viral marketing *makes 100000 legal copies of FS* *mails them to people*

This was a re-release.

I have those missions.
One is from Derelict,when you escort the Hermes carrying the Governor.
Greyface" attack a Rakshasa disabled near a gas giant,whith that inhibitor;
Nekhbet,defend an Hatshepsut until its repaired.Also destroy a Ravana;
Another mission with the Aquitaine,destroy Comm Nodes and a Ravana;
Defend an Arcadia from Pirate attack,near the Delta Serpentis Knossos 7 years after FS2;
One Step Too Far,with an Orion you strike an NTF base;
Calm Before the Storm,escort Bosch's transport,the NTT Echo;
To Destroy Or Not To Destroy,attack adn destroy a Lucifer;
The Trap,with about seven Mjolnir blockade a node and destroy two Demons,a Ravana and a Lucifer;
Maybe I forgot a mission ot two....

So that's where the Nekhbet in Derelict comes from. *Dark Hunter digs out his old FS2 discs and loads missions into missions folder*
Maybe I forgot a mission ot two....
Hmm, you counted off... 9/20 missions, so yeah, you forgot a few. :p

I don't have the GOTY edition but I think I've played some of those at one point. Which one of those was the top rated one?
-
Couldn't you get them from frrespace2.com at some point....... :confused:
-
no. those were diferent. freespace2.com hasnt been updated in years.
-
Kiss my shiny metal ass, You could get them from loads of sites........
-
The point stands that you did not get them from freespace2.com and that that site has not been updated since 2001.

Based on Icefire's comments, if I had to guess I'd say One Step Too Far, which showed some real thought in the details. But as it turns out, the devil is in the gameplay, not the details. It was poor to play...being generous. And it made very little sense in terms of the in-service dates for some equipment.
-
I'm a fan of Nekhbet personally, though that could just be because I'm a fan of Solrazor/Kyouryuu's Descent 3 level-building skillz. :p

"Poor to play" as in badly balanced, like too easy or hard?
-
Someone that have those 20 missions can send them to me? I will be like to add them for the 2.0 vercion of my pack :D

Why? Icefire himself said they were crap.
-
I'll send 'em to you just as soon as I can locate my FS2 discs... stopped using them after getting FSOpen.
Then you will be allowed to decide for yourself on how good/crappy they are.
EDIT: Found... 13 of them buried in my old data files. Attached them to this post. Enjoy!

The balance was fickle, and how tough a time you had depended greatly on just what got swatted by the Orion you were escorting in the first ten seconds. Depending on that it could be easy or very difficult. And there was just something about the mission that was wrong. It lacked that indefiniable quality that makes a mission fun to play rather than merely balanced.
