Title: Merkar Campaign
Post by: Mustang19 on October 10, 2006, 10:05:00 am
The Merkar Campaign isn't based on the Freespace universe- it follows the story of my Nationstates nation. If you haven't heard of Nationstates (www.nationstates.net), it's a huge online roleplaying game, like an MMORPG except without rules. More like an old pencil-and-paper RPG where most of what happens comes from your imagination. The campaign isn't finished either, but I'm going to release the first six missions for people to look at.

Stay tuned for chapters II, III, IV and V up next, and have fun with it!

Every mission (except training) starts you off in a docking bay of some sort.

Lots of crap going on here.

In the foreground is the mercenaries who are helping you escort the convoy (background).

Woo! 24 views and 1 download!

Looks like FS people aren't into campaigns outside the Freespace universe. I probably shouldn't have posted this.

Campaign beta's tend to be slow traffic. Once you get the finished version done you should get more interest.

I'll give it a go fella, :D

Nationstates, This should have been put into the "faveourite web page based game" thread. I've got an old account i need to rekindle, my currency was pints of beer ;7

I didn't mean "beta" like that. I wanted something that people would play around with and give me their opinion. The campaign is probably good enough to stand alone as a finished product, I just know it can be a lot better.

I changed the thread name to "Merkar Campaign" instead of "Merkar Campaign Beta".   ;7

52 views, 3 downloads. This thread is jinxed.

By the way, what's the difference between a beta and a demo? There seems to be a lot of demos here.

A demo is maybe 3-4 completed missions from a longer campaign. A beta is any number of unfinished missions released for the purpose of playtesting and feedback.

Since most people don't want to play an unfinished product if you release a beta you'll not get much response.

Not only that but it's for FS1 and not for FS2 or the port I suspect fewer people in here have a copy of FS1 and cannot play anyhow?

It's for FS1 but it will run on FS 2 port (if I understand correctly).

Let me correct my newbie semantics.

THIS IS NOT A BETA. THIS IS A PLAYABLE 6-MISSION DEMO.

I kind of liked FS1, but I no longer have the CDs. I cannot play this, buddy. Sorry.

Don't worry. I got FS2 a few weeks ago so I'm probably going to make the rest of the campaign chapters in FRED2. It's a lot more powerful as a design tool.

Retail FRED or FRED2_Open? Cause if you think retail FRED is powerful...... :D
