Title: TBP creep here, begging your pardon...
Post by: Prophet on October 11, 2006, 01:11:27 pm
Yeah, so... Becoz Ian went to hide under the bed, and gypsy women are cool and all that... Could we get some interceptors for TBP, pretty please?

Bomb flagged primaries, maybe command line flag enabled, are what we need.

The interceptors really are the last thing I can think of TBP would be needing from you. Playing the BHX really showed me how badly our ships need them. I hate to be the one bugging you but the question needed to be asked one last time.

This would be best handled via the objecttypes.tbl, since if you bomb-flagged primaries then you'll have everybody shooting at everybody else's shots, and...yeah. Ugly.

So, Prophet, you get right on that!

Obviously not every friggin peashooter would need it. ::)
But maybe a weapon flag? So that the big blobs could be shot down like in real life.

 I'm not sure what you mean.  You can make interceptors pretty easily by editing table values.  Have a look at the Valkyrie and Perseus for examples.

As for bomb-flagged primaries, I'm not sure if that's even possible.  It might be as simple as changing a few lines of code, but then again it might require a huge overhaul on the order of what was necessary for ballistic primaries.  In the latter case, it would be put pretty low on the priority list.

In the B5 universe interceptors basically refer to blob turrets which are used to shoot down incoming shots from other turrets. Basically they're nothing special. You need to be able to flag the weapons shot at them with something similar to the bomb tag so that the turret targets and shoots at them.

I've got no idea how hard or easy it would be either. Nonetheless it's only going in after 3.6.9 is released even if we can do it so remind us then.

I thought this was in already myself...

maybe command line flag enabled

To whoever implements this, please no. We have enough command lines without having the feature equivelant of every Tom, Dick, and Harry popping up in the launcher.

Oh and I doubt you need coder assistance for this. Just create a secondary weapon using the laser renderer and with the bomb flag set.

Any attempt to use laser renderer with secondary weapons seems to cause instant CTD

So B5 interceptors = Point defense turrets

Ok, this i understand now :D

Basically. They can be used against enemy craft but their primary use is for taking out shots from other ships.

Like a Phalanx used on incoming anti-ship missiles  :D
These are easy enough to do.............

With a blob weapon bomb flag there's no need for a command line option. Since nobody would bomb flag a blob weapon unless they want it to be shot at. :nervous:

Easy to do using secondaries and models but getting the effect to utilize 2d bitmaps requires atm some kind of workarounds... Like creating invisible model with either thruster glows, glowpoints, particle spew or scripted particles.. or even creating special model that uses transparancy to gain the wanted effect...

But there are some issues with all of those options, for example an turret firing secondaries is marked as missile launcher ingame... so there are problems with these. So assigning blobs with 'bomb' flag would be imo much better option

OK, i got no clue about what effect you are trying to create, but the mechanics seem sound  :)

It might be easier to have secondaries use the laser renderer than to have primaries use the bomb flag.  Not sure though.

I don't want any crazy ass hacks like that in TBP. If Prophet can't have his interceptable primaries he can't have his interceptable primaries.

Is it in mantis?
